In Okinawa, Zenzai ใใใใ means Shave Ice ใใๆฐท with Azuki beans and mochi.
In Okinawa, the beans used to be from a traditional Ryukyuan dish called, Amagashi ใใพใใ which was made of barley, brown sugar, and mung bean. After WWII, people in Okinawa started to use Azuki and with refrigerators becoming commonplace, started add shave ice on top.
Traditionally, Amagashi was eaten on ใฆใใซใใใผ Yukkanuhii (5th month, 4th day of the lunar calendar) and ใฐใณใฐใฎใใฐใใ Gungwachigunichi (5th month, 5th day of the lunar calendar).
