1am in the morning and i hear cat-cleaning-itself noises.

ok, i think, pretty normal, the cat probably snuck into my room while i was in the bathroom. no problem. he's done it before, many times.

cleaning noises morph distinctly into cat-chewing-its-dinner noises. and well, there is nothing in my room that mr. humphrey should be eating. but i'm tired and not thinking all that clearly so i don't follow that train of thought.

until.

i hear the cat crying in the hallway. outside of my closed bedroom door.
