Have you ever just sat alone in your room, on your bed or maybe a desk chair, eveloped by darkness and silence? Have you ever just sat there and finally let your wall that kept every negative thought that threatened to pillage and plague your mind break? I have. Many many times.
Shadows wrap around you like an embrace from someone you never should have trusted and you feel as though you have fallen off a cliff, not to an eventual ground for which you would break, but into nothingness, dark and cold and with no direction except where you currently are. Stuck and alone.
Well let me tell you two things:
One, if you ever find yourself there just know that I’m thinking of you. I may not know you nor you I, but every one of us who has visited that purgatory is connected in our suffering. I’m thinking about you and I’m leaving my arm extended, hand open, in hopes one day you might see my fingers through the darkness and take hold so I might pull you into the light. You are not alone.
Secondly, if you find yourself in that dark place, turn on some music. Break the silence and let the melodies envelope you like an old friend. It doesn’t matter if its sad music, happy music, death metal, country, pop, or whatever. Break that silence and show it you will not let it hold you forever. Live in that music and let your thoughts flow with it because without it, your thoughts are dead still.
I know you even if I don’t know you, you are not alone and I want you to know that through your darkness.
