On the evening of his final concert before his retirement (and marriage to his lover Katsuki Yuuri), he is attacked by the Camerata, a mysterious radical group that seeks to change Grand Prix City from the ground up, using a strange sword known as the Transistor. 

He survives, but at the cost of Yuuri getting impaled on it instead and his voice.
