(Also, I think as far as what type of Thing Armand has going on with him, I kind of always read it as a mix of PTSD and possibly some type of other neurodivergence? There is so much overlap that you sort of end up with six of one, half a dozen of the other. And other types of neurodivergence just adds flavor to the way your PTSD is going to look ya know.)

Hello! PLEASE you do not have to ask me questions I’m always down to discuss VC and specifically Devil’s Minion meta, haha!

First, I want to say that speculation about Armand’s various afflictions is only a predictor of why he’s like THAT. Five centuries in, there’s no comparing his actions to someone with any of these various neurodivergencies. So, I agree. It’s a mash of everything that poor kid’s been through, heightened by any ND stuff he had already had. I REALLY love the fanon for the reason he’s so adept at the Mind Gift is because he spent so long disassociating (a huge symptom of all sorts of ND conditions) and creating fantasy worlds inside his own head, that now it’s incomparable to most other vampires’ mastery of that gift. He also communicates almost entirely this way, to the point where others are surprised by his voice when he actually does speak. I love exploring the consequences of this, too. Lately, I’ve been thinking about how being forced to communicate verbally with Daniel would be a gigantic challenge for him in a way he might not experience with Marius. You could literally read into this forever and it’s like, one of my favorite things to do in the VC fandom lol. Like, I could even say there’s evidence of Amadeo being autistic because of his fascination with watching boats being constructed in Venice. Or the meltdown he had when he busted Marius’ door down. Blah blah blah. I love that little fucker so much.

I personally have a theory that whatever affliction someone had as a mortal is amplified as a vampire. Like, if you personally believe Lestat has BPD, well. I mean. Look at him. Hahaha

But, let’s get back to what you said at first because that’s a super interesting point. A lot of what you see of Daniel IS through someone else’s eyes. I think the Devil’s Minion chapter is the only time we get a glimpse of what he thinks and in that context it’s only in relation to his obsession with Armand so a lot of speculation has become fanon. For example, Daniel is highly intelligent. He’s a natural journalist and very curious about others. He probably also has BPD as it’s easy for him to become addicted to substances AND people… which compromises his health most of the time. Another symptom of BPD is a huge uncomfortableness with being stagnant or bored which I think aligns with Daniel very well. (I digress) But Daniel’s true interests usually revolve around Armand within the VC universe. We never really get to speculate on what Daniel REALLY likes (besides, you know, drugs and alcohol). This is why I fell in love with Old Maniel in the AMC universe because I do believe he could have been an extremely successful Anthony Bourdain-esque journalist. I do believe he could have made a name for himself despite his struggles. Daniel is too smart, too educated and too driven to allow mere addictions to stop him.

So, as far as my own, personal speculation on what Daniel really enjoys is somewhat hard to say. I love Armand. I used to (and still do, sorta) role play as Armand. Armand is my main muse and through Armand I see Daniel. I did recently read some headcanons about Louis and Daniel, though which were really cute. The headcanon was something like, how Daniel and Louis have a little reading club because they both enjoy literature so much, which tracks. I’ve come up with headcanons with other role players, like how Dan loves the Muppets and is a real big autophile and has a large collection of cars. I actually hold that headcanon really close to my heart because I think it suits him so well. I do believe Daniel at first was largely uncomfortable with living in extreme wealth but maybe learned to accept it when he started collecting these cars. And Armand has always been more than happy to spoil the fuck out of him so allowing Dan to indulge was never an issue.

And, I truly do think Daniel really enjoys his conversations with Armand. He loves how they can have deep, hours long conversations about an obscure topic or a topic that started as no-big-deal. Like, watching a marathon of Hell’s Kitchen or something turns into a debate about food culture or whatever. Healthy debate and speculation stimulates Daniel a lot and Armand can already ramble for hours.

Man, it does suck that Dan doesn’t get more of a spot light in VC but I like to explain it by believing that Dan likes to keep a low profile. His starting the Vampire Chronicles would be enough fame for him and he keeps an unassuming presence amongst other vampires. He’s a secret celebrity, you know. He would like how he could enter a party and have nobody know he’s so close to these super well known, powerful immortals. And he’s fledgling to THE Vampire Armand. The Devil Himself. Makes him frisky, you know.

All I can think of is that you can get an Official Doctor’s Note™ if an institution/employer needs proof that you’re dyspraxic! Otherwise in my experience there isn’t much doctors can do for you once you’re diagnosed, and a lot of the support comes from communities (like ours!) and information sources (like ours, and other sites!)

Bro, at least Berserk has emotional subject matter in it that kind of explains why the arguing gets as heated as it does. The fact that kids are telling each other to kill themselves and calling each other pedophiles over their innocuous ships baffles me. My buddy was just like, yes this is a mildly enjoyable show and I like robots. It was wild.

Oh geez, five, huh? Right off the bat, number one is Watership Down. I’ve read it like 10 times since I was 14.  Next would be Long Patrol from the Redwall series, a childhood favorite. Hitchhiker’s Guide to The Galaxy. Umm... Aesop’s Fables, especially this one edition of it I had as a kid with the Nora Fry illustrations and the Fox and the Crow on the cover. The Unbroken Web, another Richard Adams book.
