i’ve laid in the sun until i felt the warmth seep into my bones and set them on fire, and i’ve stayed to glow like white hot embers. i’ve let myself burn red and gold to capture the light between my shoulderblades and keep it there just long enough to melt to the point where my atoms no longer stick together and let my soul escape from my body for just a second, an hour.

i’ve stayed under the water until the pressure threatened to burst my eardrums and my throat burned, and i’ve waited until the ripples faded from the surface to give way to the silvery reflection. i’ve closed my eyes until my limbs turned liquid and were no longer separate from the water surrounding me, and i’ve stayed to feel my brain melt into the waves for just a minute, an eternity.
