So. post parallax post spectre post rebirth hal and j’onn at a party.

with j’onn pov, trying very hard all the time to never breach his teammates, his friends minds but hals BARELY concealing his

you dont even have to be a telepath/empath like j’onn is, everyone can see how tense and on edge hal is around anyone in the league like theres a large spike between his shoulder blades at all times and j’onn can sense hal’s emotions leaking out from several invisible wounds like blood in the water and j’onns teeth snap in an effort to scent it and drive it back to its source

j’onn is met with a tense smirk and a body braced for impact in a room full of friends and allies

eventually they open up a private mind link, cuz hals mind is *screaming* for reassurance and j’onn cant leave that alone

j’onn initially apologising for any discomfort his alienness must bring hal, especially from being in/connected to his mind and body and hals just like. im a green lantern?? i have more alien coworkers than human or even humanoid- i dont think youre weird??

them spending the rest of the party maybe at least slightly apart like across the room, mingling with other groups, eating at different times but mentally theyre practically melded together

they converse fluidly about the stimuli and conversations and thoughts theyre both having as if in a dance with eachother, moving to a different song, beat, tempo, genre but theyre both in sync. theyre swimming in the same waters, riding currents like sharks, bumping into eachother

and then i want a moment where someone says something or does some shit around hal that makes him feel trapped or like a monster, someone being more gentle than they would’ve been otherwise but hal sees it as cautious, *wary* and that makes his knees buckle with hurt and j’onn feels this blooming flower of pain, self loathing, love and respect for his friends and a need to flee

dunno how this would lead in but i want j’onn and hal embracing in a dark room, clutching eachother and opening up about their respective wounds hurts and aches. about their loneliness and how they know they can move on but it will always be apart of them and they just. cry in each others orbit. suffer together

theyre two characters that have both experienced such loss and you can see how it afffects them in quiet moments but theyre also incredibly social and socially starved in their own ways

telepaths and empaths are inherently social- j’onn IS. a social character but hes so repressed because of his FEAR of social rejection if he trespasses human customs of respect

its a fear born out of survival, and being the lone survivor out of all his people he probably thinks its wise to rarely open like he longs to for safety of not just himself but the people hes responsible for and the people he cares for
