Here’s me spinning the blessed/cursed yak down with my wool/yak blended batt strips. I was finally able to capture how absolutely fiddly and time consuming this is, especially since I’m aiming for a two ply lace weight yarn.
Bit by bit, managing two fiber supplies at once, with just enough of the wool blend to hold the yak fibers together. I have to stop to test the strength of the yarn by pulling on it often, especially if a big piece of yak comes through in the blended batt strip.
Also, I’m watching some pretty messed up police interrogation / true crime footage while doing this so I had to crop the top off and mute the video so I didn’t upset anyone with the content on accident.
Alt text for video: a person spinning a fine length of yarn from dual fiber supply. One supply is a light pink and white combo and is coming from a long strip connected to a hand held distaff. The other supply is a fluffy cloud of white, held underneath the other. The person takes their time pulling a small strip of wool from the pink wool supply and matching it with a small amount of white yak fluff from the bottom supply, and helps guide the twist through them equally with their fingers to help the yak down adhere to the wooly base.
