When hell is opened and a set number of high standing demons escape and form together with the intent of staging a coup against Lucifer the king of hell, starting with an apocalypse Luke [a demon and a knight of hell under the elite regime known as soldier, is sent to warn and aid James Buchanan Barnes a young cardinal of his church of the coming war and the fight against its coming.
Along the way Bucky’s faith is tested and shaken not only by the trials presented to him in the stopping of the second coming and the truths he learns of as far as the history of the church, heaven, and hell, but by the growing trust and fondness he has for the wily demon that has called him to what he believes to be his final test from god.
It had taken years to get where he was today. Sucking up to arrogant bosses and taking the boring jobs-he’d almost thought dirty jobs, but all jobs were dirty. But now? He was practically at the top. Taken in as Feliks’ heir apparent. The one to take over if Feliks died too soon.Â
Pretty likely. Especially since Yasha wanted that leadership spot, and all it would take was a little poison here or a cut brake line there...
Of course, he had to stay as the heir apparent to the mob in order to get the spot, which was incredibly difficult to do when the new kid that he had drafted was fucking things up for him. Making mistakes with his jobs and almost exposing them to the cops on multiple occasions. Since Yasha was the one that drafted him, Yasha was the one facing the brunt of the boss’ anger. He had the bruises and bite marks to prove it...but he’d fix it.
“Fabian!” Yasha snarled, shoving open the hotel door. He froze as he saw everything inside. Fabian, his newest draft to the mob, scrambled for a few seconds before giving up. “You’re a cop!”Â
“Very astute of-” Fabian cut off his snarking and held up his hands as Yasha flipped a gun out of his waistband, “Okay, Yasha, calm down.”
“Calm down!?” Yasha snapped shrilly. “How am I supposed to calm down when you’ve effectively made me a target within my mob and possibly put me at blame for our entire organization falling?”
“Yasha...” Fabian stepped forward, but stopped when he heard the safety click off the handgun. “Look, you were my way in, yeah, but I can protect you. I-”
“Who says I want protection from you?” Yasha snarled, “You’ve effectively destroyed my family. I bet the cops already know all our safe houses, all our supply dealers, everything. You’ve ruined everything.” he snapped, pushing the barrel of the gun against Fabian’s forehead.Â
Now. Fabian could have easily grabbed the gun and spun Yasha’s arm behind his back, cuffing him. The man was slighter than him, weaker than him, but he didn’t. For some weird reason, over the last few months where they had been back to back, fighting off mobsters and cops alike, he had grown to trust him.Â
“You’re not going to kill me Yasha.” Fabian informed him, voice not wavering in the slightest, eyes clear of fear, just expectant.Â
“You underestimate me.” Yasha snarled, finger twitching on the trigger like he wanted to pull it but his body refused to let him.
“No. I don’t. I’m not saying you couldn’t kill me, I’m saying you won’t. Because I trust you not to. I believe in you. You don’t like this life. I know you don’t. I see it whenever you come back from Feliks’ room with a new hickey on your neck.” Yasha tensed and Fabian grimaced, thinking of all the times he wanted to punch Feliks’ smug face in for marking what didn’t belong to him...
“This has always been my life.” Yasha snarled, “My parents raised me in this life. I’m expected to continue in this life and then you came along and fucked everything up.” the arm holding the gun was wavering, and Fabian frowned when he saw the tears in Yasha’s eyes. “I let you in because I thought that you understood the life. Once you get in, you never get out. And then you started screwing up missions, and Feliks took it out on me. I’m barely hanging on to my status by a thread thanks to you.” he snapped, “I don’t care what you say. This is where I belong and this is where I’m going to stay.”Â
Fabian pushed the gun in Yasha’s hand away just as he pulled the trigger, bullet embedding itself somewhere in the wall behind the undercover cop. Dragging Yasha forward and twisting the gun from his hand, letting it clatter to the floor, Fabian pulled him into hug, ignoring his struggles.
“Let me go!” Yasha growled, continuing to struggle, but now that Fabian had him hugged tightly, the man would have to actually fight if he wanted to get out of his hold. But he didn’t fight, just squirm. He continued to squirm, making these little whimper and groan noises before he finally exhausted himself, a whole new set of whimper and groans coming out of his throat as he returned the hug. “Fabian...” he whimpered, “...I’m fucking terrified.”
Fabian exhaled, tilting his head to press his nose into his neck. “Yasha, I promise you, you’ll be fine. I-”
“Either they’ll get me or the cops will. I’m not stupid. I have nowhere to turn.” Yasha cut him off. And Fabian knew that he was working himself up. Knew he was convincing himself that Fabian had to be ignored, untrusted. And no one was as good at convincing as Yasha was.
“You can turn to me.” Fabian objected, “I-”
“-am an average cop, no pull in the force, not enough to save me from anything.” Yasha pointed out, shaking his head, “I suggest you get out of here before Feliks and the rest of the mob find out about you.”
“Yasha! I have pull in the force! Don't you think they would only send me this deep if they trusted-”
He was a quick little sonovabitch.Â
Yasha spun under one of his arms and Fabian cursed as he felt the metal of his own handcuff close around his wrist and just as quickly close around a bar in the headboard of the bed. It wouldn’t hold him long, not when he could pick the lock or break the headboard, but, well, Yasha was a quick little sonovabitch. By the time it had taken Fabian to comprehend what had happened, he already had one foot out the door.Â
“Fabian, I trusted you.” Yasha stated, staring at him with an expression that Fabian couldn’t read. “I know the business I do isn’t the right side of the law, I know it’s not pretty, but I’ve stood back to back with you as we’ve been attacked, I’ve shared things with you, about the inner workings of Feliks’ mob, but even more...about my inner workings.”Â
Fabian almost felt sick as he recognized the expression for what it was.Â
Betrayal.Â
Yasha was out the door, and by the time Fabian picked the lock on the handcuffs, his trail had already long gone cold.Â
