I wonder if the concept of ether and how it ties into the visions was partially inspired by Laplace`s demon: 

According to determinism, if someone (the demon) knows the precise location and momentum of every atom in the universe, their past and future values for any given time are entailed; they can be calculated from the laws of classical mechanics.

Shulk: I'm sorry Fiora but i can't back down from this

Sharla: Are....you two fighting?

Fiora: We're aruging who loves each other more

Shulk: Which is clearly me!

Fiora: No its not! Stop saying that!

They met up at the entrance at the start of their shift. To keep their relatively repetitive and boring job interesting, the part-timers always competed to see who could do their job the fastest. They had to do their job well, while staying efficient in their route. 

Sharla and Gadolt had their kits and were ready to go. They were both determined to win, since the loser paid for the other’s lunch. 

They went down different tunnels, taking their usual paths while staying out of the way the workers. While Sharla’s route was shorter than Gadolt’s, it had just as many ether lamps, so they were still on equal playing fields. 

The fun part of it was that there was no way to check on each other during the race since they were in different parts of the mine. They would only know who was ahead when they got back to base and saw if the other was there before them or not. 

She made her way back up the tunnels, having completed her route in about two hours. It wasn’t a record of hers, but it was still faster than usual. 

Shulk: He keeps notes of what ehat everyone mentions wanting in whatever the closest piece of paper is, which leads to him swearing and looking through his trash whenever it comes time to shop. He somehow remembers what everyone wanted anyway and/or finds he also made a list on his phone.

Reyn: He’s terrible at figuring out what people want, so he just straight asks them to make sure they’re not dissapointed, though he won’t accept “just money” as an answer. He has a tendency to wrap everything and then tag them, which has led to some pretty funny stuff.

Fiora: She’ll figure out whatpeople want pretty easily, and also make some of their favourite snacks to go with it. 

Sharla: She can and will get everyone joke girfts along with their actual gifts. It’s not exactly what they ask for, but she’s still right on the money. It’s a talent. 

Dunban: He always forgets what everyone wants, so he asks Fiora instead. Thanks to her, he gets everyone just what they wanted. When he can’t ask Fiora, he gets everyone girt cards. 

Melia: She gets everything perfect and wraps it really nicely, so much that the others almost don’t want to unwrap them. 

Shulk: the decorations, the general mood of the season and the food.

Reyn: the food, the sweaters, the good mood everyone seems to have

Fiora: the drinks, coming in to the house after a long walk in the cold, making the food.

Sharla: the knitted sweaters, the hot chocolate, the snacks.

Dunban: the food, the decorations, the music

Melia: the drinks, the food, the sweaters, the snow
