Finally, I printed a measuring cube that I feel good about gifting to someone else.
I did a test run in some Novamaker white PETG which came out pretty good, albeit a bit stringy. I noodled with slicer settings and came up with something better, but ran out of filament before the next print run's completion.
So after replacing the welded-shut PTFE tube in the throat of the hotend, I decided to load this very pretty Galaxy Red PETG. With the new settings, stringing and blobbing were minimal. I printed this on the smooth PEI side of a FulaFlex 2.0 build plate, and I love the results! (And yes, purple glue stick is really important to avoid PETG bonding too hard to the PEI.)
18+ hours into a 100+ hour print job
Printing a 1D20 of holding at 200% scale. The spool is some random PLA+ that came with the printer. Yes, the Qidi X-max really is big enough to handle the model plus supports! You may notice the filament guide upgrade we did using Capricorn tubing in some of the photos.
The finished product
Not perfect, but pretty good! With some better part cooling, this might improve. Also better temperature settings. Bridging is excellent, though, and you can even make out the lettering on the bottom.
Breaking in the new 3D printer
Yep, returned the FlashForge and got the Qidi X-max instead. No IDEX, but damn, look at that build volume! Yes, I'm printing a 3D Benchy in ultra fine resolution sliced in Qidi Print (their own software). They fully support Simplify3D, so I may start using that again.
