Are you guys sick of the wymitch edits

*a lot of these are actually super unpopular and I’m sorry, but also I’m not? You don’t have to like my opinions, because they’re mine

1. Wiress x Beetee (Beeress) - …this was surprising to no one, obviously *looks over at my hundreds of posts about them and numerous drafts*

2. Treech x Lamina (Treemina) - An unpopular opinion that I never talk about but I love them. The movie is what convinced me on them and I haven’t looked back since

3. Haymitch x Effie (Hayffie) - I don’t give a shit what SOTR said, I ship them

are there any haymitch x wyatt shippers here? i’ve consumed almost every wymitch/abernallow/hyatt fic there is, which doesn’t really count for much because there are only 20 or so, and this appears to be a rare pair situation so all i can really do is sob in gay and attempt to write a fic myself.

i’m obsessed with this pair and i’m making this post (my very first one, too) in hopes of finding someone who enjoys this ship as much as i do. please tell me im not the only one who lives for this ship.

Oh, I LOVE Abernallow!!! Personally, it's my second favorite Haymitch ship. I've written a few oneshots with them already, and I think they're an absolutely adorable pairing. Plus, with me headcanoning Lenore Dove and Wyatt as autistic, it seems I just love Haymitch being slightly confused but totally supportive and loving and understanding of his autistic partner (which directly led to one of my Abernallow oneshots 😂). Wyatt hyping Haymitch up during the practice interviews, him wanting to stay with Haymitch as an ally even though his "logic brain" knows that's a bad idea, Haymitch's line of "Wyatt's absence haunts me in the bedroom" post-Games, and just the two of them growing to really appreciate each other throughout SOTR in general... it's SO good holy shit. I love it. I'm down. Haven't written for them in a while, but I'm currently working to lower my writing load a bit to make more room for oneshots for all my various ships, so I'm sure I'll return to writing for them again soon enough!!

(On a similar note, I find it very interesting how I don't really have a set sexuality headcanon for Haymitch lmao it changes like the tide! In the past, I've headcanoned him as straight, bisexual, and lesbian. He's straight in my Maydove fic, but bi/pan in all my Abernallow and Haydock fics, and I have a few lesbian Haydove oneshots in the WIP folder. Maysilee, Wyatt, and Lenore Dove are all characters that I tend to pick a headcanon and stick to, but Haymitch shifts depending on what I'm writing, and I think that's fun!)

Both Haymitch and Lenore Dove are kind of similar in that they're both such a lovergirl/loverboy character that you can kind of slap them together with anyone and it works because they just adore the fuck out of their partner. What's interesting to me is the different sides that are brought out to Haymitch and Lenore Dove's characters depending on who they're with. If you haven't, go read Mari Ruti's book The Summons of Love because it's truly changed not only my entire perspective on love and human nature, but also how I write romance from a storytelling perspective. To provide a small glimpse as to why, in the first chapter, "The Hall of Mirrors," Ruti introduces the concept of "The Beloved as a Mirror," and there's a great quote that goes,

"We may look for a partner who complements us because he or she possesses characteristics that we do not have. Or we may be attracted to someone who is able to draw out and galvanize disavowed dimensions of our being. This is not necessarily inherently problematic... a loving encounter between two people can enrich both precisely because it helps each bring to life repressed components of his or her personality."

Essentially, in fiction, a person choosing their romantic partner is a representation of a character choosing the person they want to be, and furthermore, a character's romantic partner in general is a reflection of who they are. The Hunger Games trilogy is the best example of this with the Katniss/Peeta/Gale love triangle, but this was also done pretty well in the original PJO series with Percy's three love interests, Annabeth/Rachel/Calypso (which is a whole other rant lmao. Also, there are other ways to do this theme outside of romance, but romance is the most common).

Since I've written for so many ships, I've really come to learn so much more about all the characters involved because while the characters themselves remain constant, pairing them up with different romantic partners emphasize and bring forward different parts of said character to be explored more deeply. With Abernallow in particular, because Wyatt is a lot less of an "emotionally expressive" character than Lenore Dove is, I've found that pairing Haymitch with Wyatt really emphasizes Haymitch's emotional intelligence and ability to read people. And for Wyatt, putting him with Haymitch really emphasizes the more quiet, nurturing side of his character that we kind of only see in brief glimpses in the book, most of which are with Lou Lou. I think Abernallow loves each other equally, Wyatt's expression of it is just a bit more subtle than Haymitch's. They kind of take on aspects of each other, which I really love with any ship I write for.
