please share more details of the cow puzzle box. i love it so. also your art is great
omg thank you so much! it’s so nice that people are interested in it bc I was really proud of it lol (referring to this post)
as far as the storyline it was a bit incomplete -- I made it for a uni project and decided as a starting point I’d use a book and try and find a story in it, but bc of this it was a little vague (I posted some of them if you want to have a look) ... you can definitely find some kind of storyline when you read the sections in the context of each other but it takes a bit of interpretation so isn’t that satisfying for a puzzle box lol as you want your work to be rewarded... I still think its fun though. the content is a bit dark but I think that just came from the source material
im not sure exactly what you’re looking for as more details but I can show you some of the process! I won’t go into huge detail bc it was a long af process to end up w this concept
here are some sketches I did for the bull itself -- i LOVE drawing exaggerated shapes and gestures like this so this part was really fun for me
heres my derranged narrative planning process trying to tie everything together. I separated the story into four ‘layers’ in a way that you had to read all of the first layer before being able to unlock the next, so I could have some control over how the narrative progressed for the person playing. I did this by using keys that were necessary to find before proceeding - three different coloured acetate that reveals the text beneath:
and also the tool hidden in the horn which you could use to turn bearings in the house and the bum. The acetate ones were such a pain bc you had to print them in a way that they were illegible without the lense
the numbers and letters refer to parts of the book... the book was a how to learn german book from the 30s which i found in a charity shop, i bought it bc i was going on exchange to germany the next year but i never ended up using it for that lol. the tone of it was really strange and i found it funny what they thought were essential phrases for beginners like ‘my teeth are sharper than yours’ etc. lots of phrases about death and illness too. it was published between world wars so that explains a lot and i think if i learnt german from it i would have sounded really old fashioned in my way of speaking lol
this was my final construction plan:
I hope this is what you meant! maybe it was interesting
