Unfortunately, Instincts. (Ricken/Lonâqu)
22: My muse gravely injures yours and must help them or find them help.
Years of training had sharpened his reflexes and reaction time-- it wasnât as if he had become Basilioâs champion just by sitting idle.  On top of this, Lonâqu was, just by the nature of his past, a rather on-edge person.  Regardless of whether or not he were to admit it aloud, many everyday occurrences simply startled him.  The screech of boiling water in a kettle, footsteps outside of his tent, the loud cawing of one of the crows that for some reason always seemed to make themselves comfortable around camp-- all of these things heightened his senses, and made the swordsman react quicker, more aggressively.
So unfortunately, the sudden movement of someone behind a tree sent Lonâqu into his more primal âfightâ response.  After all, he was so far away from camp that the chances of this being a brigand were much higher than an animal or even someone else in the army.  But his impulsive reaction would be his downfall when after a swift movement of his sword, he realized that this was no brigand-- this was a child, and one he knew, at that.
