I feel like Grantaire is one of nature’slightweights – yes, he’s increased his alcohol tolerance from years of, well,Grantaire activities, but it’s still very easy to get him drunk. This raisesthe possibility that Marius “Mary Sue” Pontmercy might be the one clinging tosobriety longer if the two of them went drinking together. What an alarmingthought.

On the other hand, there’s no reason to thinkMarius’ alcohol tolerance is anything impressive (and some evidence to thecontrary), so it’s also possible thatwhen out drinking with friends and Marius and Grantaire are the first twoproperly feeling the effects. Marius and Grantaire are sitting there, grumblingat each other, and then suddenly both weeping over a line of Spanish or Germanpoetry and trading vague sentiments about the coldness of the stars. Everyoneelse is barely even tipsy. Oh no. (Of course, this is a remote contingencygiven Marius’ aversion to going out drinking with friends, but still.)

Teach me your skills, man, I *still* can't recognize everyone and I've watched the whole series multiple times

I feel like they’ve done a pretty good job at making most of the men - at least the one that have at least a couple of lines - fairly unique, in terms of faces and mannerisms. Obviously I’m only midway through the series so I’m not sure about everyone yet, but so far I’m delightfully impressed! I’m not sure how much of it is the writing, how much of it is the cast having the time to prepare and the motivation to make their portrayals unique, since they’re playing real people, but yeah.

The main cast is obviously easy, but for the secondary characters, I have mental notes like:

The sad face, mutton-chops one is Lt. Little;

Jopson has really majestic eyebrows, and distinctive hair;

Mr. Bridgens has both distinctive hair and a distinctive nose;

The one one who always looks like he’s about to absolutely lose it, despite having the prettiest scarf on the ship, is Lt. Irving;

The grey-haired one who’s always slouching, looking bored, even when he’s getting his frostbitten toes snipped off is Le Vesconte;

The one who looks like a fluffy, very alarmed puppy is Mr. Collins;

The one who somehow looks like an old scruffy cat is Morfin (”Good God, Morfin...” cracks me up)

Des Voeux has a perfectly round face? It may be his hat/scarf, but his face is really funny to me;

There’s the nice doctor, McDonald, and the jerk racist rude one, Stanley - you know Stanley is the jerk because his hair is combed back, while the nice one’s is a little more dishevelled;

The really tall, red-haired Marine who has a high school bully face is Tozer, I think?;

Speaking of redheads, Hartnell really looks like someone I know, so he’s easy to figure out;

also Billy Gibson has absolutely beautiful skin? for now I guess? how does he do that? etc.

What kind of events do you wish existed, if you don't mind me asking?

I have no idea actually :0 The Hannibal folks have like Fresh Meat Fridays where you rec new or not so well-known creators, themed weekend creation events, and are constantly making zines and calendars and stuff and I’m just jealous/miss being in a big fandom XD

Oh my.  I feel like I’ve answered both of these before but my answers may have changed since then?  Let’s see.

Les Mis:Fuck Courfeyrac.  I just really need to fuck Courfeyrac, okay?  I want to live my #courfeyrac’s thighs appreciation life tag to the fullest of my ability.Marry Combeferre.  We’d have a steady source of income (social service nonprofits... aren’t lucrative) and I think he’d just be a stable companion while also still being interesting to talk to and excited about things, while still being open to thoughtful discussion.  And I’m sure we could come to some sort of rational agreement surrounding our sex/dating life.Kill Enjolras, mostly by virtue of not wanting to make him fuck or marry anyone.  I don’t think he’d appreciate either of those things, and I don’t know that he’d be particularly effective at them.

2. Favorite part of writing

The best thing in the world is when I get a scene or a really vivid image in my head and have to rush to write it down, wherever I am. On my phone notes, in my email, at home, whatever I get to first. I LOVE IT when scenes just appear vividly like that. It’s usually brought on by music. 

3. Least favorite part of writing

Fixing my dang tense mistakes, ugh. Writing in present tense often leaves me confused about what the exact proper way to refer to things that happened in the past is (had been? Was? DOES IT DEPEND ON THE SENTENCE argh, I hate it, but I think I’m getting better). 

22. How many drafts do you need until you’re satisfied and a project is ultimately done for you?

This really depends. With fic, usually I have a first draft and then I do an edit, so two. But sometimes with individual scenes, I may struggle with those more, and might have to rewrite multiple times. That tends to vary. 

With the process of turning my pirate fic into books, well, that’s been quite different! Even after I did the initial transfer over, I still have revised each book 3 different times, usually with a different strategy: reading on the laptop, reading on physical paper, reading aloud and listening to the recording. With that process, it’s been about getting down the DNA of each scene, which sometimes involves merging scenes, cutting scenes, moving them, adding them. When you’ve got the draft, you’ve got the puzzle pieces. Revising is about where they go and what you’re missing and what’s extra. I’m actually enjoying this process, because it makes something I already love SHINE. 

46. What would Sailing by Orion’s Star (is that still the title?) look like as a tv show or movie?

That is the title of the first book in the series, yep! I divided what I currently have up into three books (with more I’d like to write) but the other two books are Carina and Gemini.
