Magic and the Art of Meeting the Universe Half-way
So I have a spell. It's a simple spell, requires very little effort or resources. Beautiful, really, and adaptable to many different situations.
This particular spell was used this afternoon to help me get over a gnarly bit of executive dysfunction. I had to do the thing. It had to be done. But I couldn't do the thing. So, I employed it.
I have the intent, I have the will, I've done the spell, bam, now I have the ability to do the thing that needs doing.
What would have happened if I had just, I dunno, sat back down in my comfy chair?
Nothing.
Nothing would have happened, because sometimes, we have to put forth a little more effort than saying some words and lighting a few candles.
In my experience, certain types of magic often require us to meet the universe half-way. Let's say I did a spell to help me find a job. I could do everything correctly, and focus on that fucker until I was sweating blood, but after that, if I just sat back and waited, I would still be unemployed. Jobs do not come a'knocking (usually). I would still have to take the time to look for a job, submit resumes, etc. I wouldn't just wake up one morning gainfully employed. The same can be said for most of what we ask the universe to bring into our lives. Money, love, employment, and so on. We can't cast a spell to bring something into our lives and then do nothing, thus leading to us shaking our fists at the stars and crying 'why didn't that spell work?!'
It's like the joke my childhood preacher told me once, about the man who prayed to win the lottery but never bought a ticket. We can't expect results if we don't put in the required effort. Magic helps us in our day to day lives, but it doesn't do the dishes for us.
