Been feeling hella Craftsy really. Just allowing my inner child and inner whimsy come out. I've painted flowers on my door frame and thinking of painting vines on some of my window sills. Just allowing myself to be creative and messing up physically without having the undo button makes me a little more experimental with my art and with Beltane and Spring starting this past weekend just has me in such a whimsical mood and I plan to enjoy every second of it.

From the glittering sky does it fall

A single seed from far above

Sew on with care

Sew on to rid the despair

Sew on and smile fair

Below where the blanket warms the heart

So too shall the soul's tears stall

And so shall the past flutter appart

Sprout shall a dream greet you

Sprout shall a misty veil anew

Sprout shall a peace on and through

Grow high and return to the sky

There your silent happiness awaits

To return to the Everdream Tree's hall

Lost of woe and escaped from ugly fates

A tree amongst the Milky Way you fly

Which bears the fruits of every wish's sigh

I've been thinking about my personal rituals and making little changes. I love how Spring inspires us all to embrace new beginnings!

In my Hearth Witchcraft post, I talked about how Hearth Witches see magic in the everyday things we do at home. Our routines honor ourselves, our loved ones, our ancestors, and our gods.

I love to explore and connect with my ancestry through Kitchen Witchcraft, which is closely related to Hearth Witchcraft. I research social customs, traditional recipes, and popular beverages to connect with the cultures I come from.

Most people in the U.S. are familiar with the concept of tea time in the United Kingdom. Every day around the same time, millions of people sit down with tea, biscuits, and/or sandwiches. But a ritual afternoon snack exists across the world under many names! In Germany, it's called "Kaffee und Kuchen," which translates to coffee and cake.

I love this idea of an afternoon respite! Being of English and German descent, I’ve decided to start treating myself to an afternoon snack in the name of my ancestors! As such, I’ve added Tea Time and Kaffee und Kuchen to my regular schedule.

Etymology

Archaeologists define a hearth as a firepit or other fireplace feature. Human beings have made and gathered around fires since prehistoric times. We can explore fire’s cultural significance through the many myths and stories centered around fires and tending fires.

Firepits and places were usually in the center of a dwelling. They provided light, warmth, and helped us prepare food for the family. For generations, our living spaces so closely centered around fireplaces–that the terms hearth and home became ubiquitous, appearing together everywhere.

What is Hearth Witchcraft?

Every Hearth Witch is different, but what unites them is their loving bond with their home and the upkeep of it. A Hearth Witch is someone who has thoroughly incorporated Witchcraft into their daily life. A Hearth Witch works magic into every task, chore, and tradition. It’s no surprise that Hearth Witchcraft is becoming more popular in our community.

Many spellbooks will tell you that before you begin working in a space, it’s best to clean it physically. I am a maximalist decorator, but I work hard to make my things feel cozy rather than cluttered. And when I paint or write, I often clear my workspace first because it makes it easier to focus. There’s something important about tending to our physical spaces as much as our spiritual ones. I think Hearth Witchcraft embodies this realm of thought.

Hearth Witchcraft traditions often include; Kitchen Witchcraft, Green Witchcraft, sigils around the home, hanging herbs at specific places/times, making offerings to house spirits and farm spirits, and observing cultural traditions. A Hearth Witch also views their routines and responsibilities through a magical lens. Caring for their loved ones, animals, plants, property, and community all has a spiritual meaning for them.
