May is a genuinely rich month for witches, and it moves fast. Here's what's coming and a little context for each date, so you can decide what to work with and what to simply observe.
May 1 — Beltane and the Flower Moon in Scorpio
Beltane is one of the four fire festivals on the traditional wheel of the year, sitting opposite Samhain and marking the peak of spring's energy moving into summer. Historically rooted in British Isles folk tradition, Beltane celebrations centered on fire, fertility, and the boundary between the domestic and the wild. Bonfires were lit, cattle were driven between flames for protection, and the threshold between the human world and the otherworld was considered especially thin.
Having the Flower Moon fall in Scorpio on the same day adds a layer that's worth sitting with. Scorpio full moons tend to pull things up from deep water like emotions that have been quietly circling or truths that haven't found words yet. Paired with Beltane's outward, celebratory energy, this is a day that holds both fire and depth at once. Good for workings around transformation, desire, or anything you've been carrying privately that's ready to be acknowledged.
May 13 — New Moon in Taurus
The quietest energy of the month. Taurus new moons favor slow, grounded magic such as planting intentions that are meant to grow over time rather than ignite quickly. This is a good moon for abundance work, for committing to a long-term practice, or simply for getting clear on what you actually want before you ask for it. Sensory, simple workings land well here. A stone, a candle, something written by hand and set aside.
May 31 — Blue Moon in Sagittarius
A blue moon is the second full moon in a single calendar month, and they're uncommon enough that most practitioners treat them as significant. Sagittarius energy is expansive, truth-seeking, and a little restless. It wants to move toward something, to understand, to reach further than before. A blue moon in this sign is a good closing note for a month that started with so much intensity. Use it to look at where you're heading and whether that direction still feels true.
Work with what calls to you. One date, one candle, one honest intention is always enough.
