In my medicine card book, Hummingbirds are joy medicine. I love how the Native Americans observed the animals in their environment and learned how to be from them.  Then they took what they learned from these animals, integrated the teachings into their lives and saw this as medicine. You can take this medicine too. The next time you see a Hummingbird, remember this: “Flowers love Hummingbird because nectar sucking brings about the reproduction of their families. Plants flower and live because of Hummingbird. Hummingbird feathers have been used for a millennium in the making of love charms. It is said that Hummingbird feathers open the heart. I love how simple and direct this message is… 1) you are responsible for the pain you experience and 2) the pain is from not accepting life as it is. Keep this in mind the next time you have a knee jerk reaction to something upsetting and want to blame the other person for your discomfort. I know it may seem totally obvious that the other person is at fault. But if you can just be open enough to consider even for a second that the pain you experience is your responsibility, the edge gets taken off in that you realize you have the power to change how you feel for the better. And the way to do that is to stop resisting what is happening through complaining, blaming and ruminating. Accept what is happening. Think about it long enough to decide on a course of action and then drop it. Start with little things like dropping a glass full of juice on the floor when you’re in a hurry. Or getting a $200 ticket. Suffering is always about resistance.
