My XP-Pen PenTablet Window Software: ON and OFF Windows Ink difference - Windows 7 ver. (Oct. 15th, 2020)

Hi, My XP-Pen Deco 01 V2′s topic continues after a weeks of hiatus focusing on my other stuff.😊🖊️📝

Today I’m talking about “Windows Ink” on Windows 7 from the old Lenovo laptop (G470).💻 So why am I talking about this? Well... You’ll see.

*But before that, I want YOU… Yes you, which you’re reading my description. I want you to watch my recorded video first 📹📲 (as a observation) before you read the rest of my reaction experience. Hope you’re watching…

My Experience #1: •(Now as you already done watching video.) I didn’t realize in my whole drawing life, that the “Windows Ink” was disable from the XP-Pen PenTablet Window Software. But what happens if I enable the “Windows Ink”? Well, the result was my cursor mouse is unable to move and I can’t tap anything at all; both in GIMP art software, and other windows programs. Except in the working canvas area of the GIMP, in which is the only part that the cursor can move. In my theory: “Windows Ink” for Windows 7 version can only detect the working canvas area when plugging the drawing/graphic tablet and enable the “Windows Ink”, unlike in Windows 10′s Windows Ink counterpart (and also Windows 8 variants I guess). As for my drawing performance 📝✍️ between ON and OFF "Windows Ink” for Windows 7; well it’s quite the same actually, albeit a little bit weighty when I switch ON “Windows Ink” compare to lightness when I switch OFF. Here, I made some examples for that.↓

My experience #2:

• So like I said before, it performs the same for both of them with a bit heavy scribble for turning ON and light scribble when turning OFF.

• Though I even try to send a message to a professional artist youtuber named “Teoh Yi Chie” / Parka Blogs on his profile website about “ON and OFF Windows Ink differences”; saying that “Certain apps will only have pressure sensitivity when Windows Ink is turned on. So if there are troubles with pressure sensitivity, you may want to turn Windows Ink on or off to troubleshoot.” and “You have to toggle Windows Ink on and off. If you can’t drag with or without Windows Ink, it’s probably not Windows Ink problem. Could be driver problem.” From the looks of it, I haven’t much problem on pressure sensitivity after I already setup the right way. And you know what, I think I should switch / leave turn off the “Windows Ink”, just for the sake of mobility on my cursor using my Passive Pen and the Drawing Tablet of my  XP-Pen Deco 01 V2, rather than just toggle on and off which is annoying in my opinion. Although… Unless If I moved to Windows 10 OS from a my little bro’s former gaming PC desktop, I should do another topic. Because my little bro is earning his big savings for a better gaming PC desktop; I mean -better graphics card, motherboard, CPU chip, RAM and all needed specs, just to get a improve performance for his Autodesk Revit architect work. It seems to be that I will moved to Windows 10 and leave Windows 7 very very soon… Probably November or December.

And BTW: Big shout out to Mr. Teoh Yi Chie from Singapore. I think he’s a good professional artist who had a lot of drawing/graphics tablets reviews and also pen display and sometimes flatbed scanners too (at that time) which mostly I watched from his video a lot (than just art supply tools,etc… because I focused on digital drawing/graphics tablets), so I want to say thank you for your good advice about my recent topic. Dammit, Windows Ink somehow managed to enable itself again

I just helped my husband fix his Photoshop issue where, at some point, his PC auto updated making Windows Ink a nightmare.

This is how I fixed his pen problems:

1) Make a .txt file named “PSUserConfig” containing only this text:

# Use WinTab UseSystemStylus 0

2)  Place it in your Photoshop settings folder that’s hidden in your AppData.  The default path should look like this:

C:\Users\YOUR-USER-NAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2018\Adobe Photoshop CC 2018 Settings

(Choose the version of Photoshop that you are currently using, for me it’s CC 2018)

Ideally it shouldn’t be replacing anything.  If the file already exists, add the user config line mentioned earlier to that file and save.

These two steps SHOULD be enough.  But if you’re still experiencing issues, you can take it another step further.

3)  Open your Wacom Tablet Properties.  Create an Application Rule for Photoshop, if you haven’t already made one, and click on the Tool you wish to edit (such as a Grip or Pro Pen).  4)  In my version of the driver (Control Panel Version: 6.3.11-4) under my Pen’s settings, there is a Calibrate Tab with a Windows Ink checkbox at the bottom corner.  Uncheck that box.  More recent versions of the Wacom driver may have placed this checkbox elsewhere.

The symptoms my husband’s Photoshop was experiencing was seemingly random tool swapping, delayed pen strokes, pan and scroll becoming interchangeable, and pen pressure inconsistency.  The moment he described it to me, I knew exactly what the issue was XD

I know there are a host of compatibility problems that arise between Windows Ink and Photoshop (and any number of drawing software), so I can’t say this will help everyone, even if the symptoms are similar.  (Also, I’m not much of a tech support-- google is probably as much help as I ever will be lol)

IMPORTANT PSA FOR ARTISTS USING WACOM TABLETS AND THE WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM

After a recent Windows update, I noticed Windows Ink had automatically been turned on again on my PC. Windows Ink is a handwriting and gesture software Windows uses to allow gestures using drawing tablets. I turn this off since it enables “double clicking” with my pen in the form of tapping an area with my pen and holding down. This messes with my workflow and makes my pen lag, something I don’t want when drawing

Today a friend got an issue where her Photoshop would mess up and would become unusable after a recent Windows Update. The canvas would scroll up and the pen just wouldn’t work on Photoshop. I remembered my Windows Ink had turned on and told her to turn it off, this instantly fixed the issue. I didn’t have an issue with ClipStudio to this magnitude but it would still do the double clicking when holding down the pen

To turn Windows Ink off, open your Wacom Preferences, go to the Pen tab, click on Mapping and at the bottom there’s a box to enable or disable Windows Ink. Make sure to untick it and press okay

PLEASE SHARE if you see that you or artist friends have an issue like this after a Windows Update. The setting is pretty hidden and might be an issue

Finished with this quick piece of art. Windows ink is magical!! And so is this handsome devil!

My Wacom drawing pad’s pen pressure now only works on Paint 3D, because of their Windows Ink handwriting feature that I’m never going to use. I can’t disable it--the advice on Google on how to do that is apparently outdated. (Drawing software is FireAlpaca.)

HOW THE FUCK

- the registry editor doesn’t list hkeys for Ink - Windows Home so no local groups editing - even tried a reg key edit direct run command from Tumblr and it still doesn’t work
