I was going to do a full body for once but then I got bored (per usual)

I’ve been witness to much fandom discourse recently and I usually stay out of it. But it’s finally gotten to a point where it’s just *bullying*. Especially towards my friend @littlekandiclown . I have known martin for a little over a year at this point, they were one of my first friends I made in the wild with this fandom. Martin makes the fandom fun and silly Text post edits, gifs, and photo bashes. They’re also a fun and very sweet person to speak with. And I’m absolutely sick of the backlash and cyberbullying I see happening towards them. It’s cruel and unnecessary.

Recently they made a text post about Hellfire. Now if you’re unaware, Hellfire is the ship name between Lenore x Montresor. For which they received much backlash, vauge posts, and cyber bullying for. All in the name of “Sexuality erasure.”.

Now. I want to very *specifically* address that this post is in no way, hate towards anyone specifically, Rnf. And I am in now way saying that you aren’t free to headcanon anything you like. In fact that’s entirely the point of this post.

Moving on!

My first issue with the “you can’t ship Montresor and Lenore because they’re gay/lesbians” is, absolutely no where does it say that. It’s very heavily implied that Lenore is queer, and obviously there is something with Montresor and Will. But we don’t know they are GAY. and LESBIANS.

“Oh but the pride month art.” Simply acknowledged what we already knew to be the two canon same-sex relationships.

Will and Montresor are done up in the colors of the MLM flag. Which for those of you unaware, was made in 2019 by a tumblr blog, and made to be an all inclusive flag for MLM. NOT *JUST* GAY MEN.

Here is a picture of what each of the stripes represent.

On the flip side, Lenore and Annabel aren’t in an exact one for one with the WLW flag, like Wiltresor is with the different hues of the MLM.

Now, I am educated enough on queer history to explain to you that the Lesbian or WLW flag has been through much of its own history and changes through the 20th century. But one thing is for sure, the hues in the Lennabel pride month art, aren’t that of the current flag. But rather mostly Violets. (Which yes is Featured in the flag, but the art doesn’t follow the exact gradient of the flag, like the Wiltresor one does.) Violets are improtant to SAPPHIC history as the Greek Poet Sappos wrote about them. They’ve always been tied to the sapphic identity. Which, encapsulates ALL WLW, pan, bi, omni, etc. Not specifically Lesbians.

My second point to this, is “oh but in the nevermore server Red confirmed it”

Okay? Not everyone has access to the nevermore server. Anything about a piece of media that is made canon outside of the intended source is lazy, bad writing, or you’re just not open minded enough to have fluctuating opinions and views!

I personally think that if someone has to jump through hoops, whether that be back reading a discord server or a Patreon pay wall, in order to learn something about a character, they can be free to head canon whatever they want.

That's the kind of recognition she doesn't get from her dear friends. And it feels weird as hell, but not unpleasant. And she possibly feels guilty for offering them some sympathy, because she's facing an uncomfortable fact: a good ally doesn't have to be a good friend, let alone a good person.
