Anygays, what caused Pluto, Duke, and Prospero's scars?

Well hello there dear Anon!!! Very glad that you're enjoying our little (me and @/lotuseatersunionized 's) corner of insanity!! And so sorry it took me this long to answer this!! I've been neglecting my inbox a lot lately and I sincerely apologise 😭😭

The reason they're all scarred up has to do with their respective roles in the pod!

Prospero: He is a guard. His job is to protect the pod (and Annabel specifically) and to make sure that all possible threats/disputes are taken care of (wheatear that is other merfolk, humans or just marine life in general). He takes his job VERY seriously. He is very tunnel visioned. He puts the well-being of the pod way above his own and it shows through the various "badges of honour" he has accumulated over the years. Since we didn't want to make him a healer in this, I thought it would be interesting to explore his touch aversion, fear of his own blood/injuries and reclusive behaviours through a setting where his role challenges all of these aspects of his character to the max. Visually too.

Duke: Duke is a bit all over the place. Literally. He doesen't have an assigned role per se. He will do guard duty as well as help with the hunts SORTA regularly but he is much better know as the (un)official entertainer and story teller of the pod. He has SOME scars but since he doesen't spend as much time around action as someone like Pro would, he isn't as scarred up. He would much rather spend his time keeping the old and injured company as well as entertaining everyone with tricks (especially the little ones. They LOVE him) . He is still just as reckless with his well being as he is in canon but his ability to escape odds that are against him is also very formidable.

Pluto: Pluto is a messenger. Very fast and silent (but also painfully unlucky) . He delivers important information between major pods and sort of makes sure that everything around their territory is in order and works smoothly. He reports everything that should be reported and is the eyes and ears of Annabel and her family, which are very much the equivalent of nobility bordering on royalty in this AU. He isn't nearly as beaten up as Duke and Pro are but his nervous demeanor attracts a lot of unwanted attention from lesser than kind merfolk and even one or two close calls with humans. His family (especially his dad) isn't the greatest either so yeah.

Morella: Morella is a special case. She (just like Prospero) has met Monty and it didn't go too well for her, hence the chunk missing out of her dorsal fin. Won't go into too much detail in this particular post but it is an event in the story that holds a lot of weight for her as well as some other characters. She is sweet and she spends most of her time hanging out with Pluto, Bee and Duke as well as taking care of the injured and the old. She is dead set on not letting anyone suffer the way she did.
