Though a prosecutor says he'll let a grand jury decide whether the man who killed Ahmaud Arbery will face charges, many in this south Georgia community can't understand why no one's been arrested.

Imagine that. Ahmaud Arbery was being chased by ARMED rednecks with a confederate flag on their truck, who were calling him nigger, and we’re supposed to believe that they shot him because they were afraid for their safety??
This thing where visibly armed white men get to create a dangerous environment, and be the provocateurs in a situation of their own making, and then they still get to claim that they “feared for their safety”? Or they murdered someone because their racist imaginations saw “suspicious” activity where there was none?? ….. that shit has got to stop. You don’t get to create a danger and then claim “self-defense” when someone doesn’t instantly submit to racist demands.
And while I’m at it, the cop who shot Jacob Blake? Rusten Sheskey? He shot Blake in the back. When I was a kid, that’s what cowards always did in the movies. Only cowards shoot unarmed people. Only cowards shoot people in the back. It takes no bravery to gun down an unarmed person. There’s no honor in being a coward who murdered an unarmed person that was never a threat. I wish gun nuts could be honest and acknowledge that shooting an innocent person or carrying a gun doesn’t make you “brave” or “honorable.” It makes you a fucking coward.
Most of these crimes are not caught on film and go unpunished—unfortunately, they often go unpunished even when they are caught on film. And because of how cozy the district attorney’s office was with the police and the McMichael family, this particular case was very nearly swept under the carpet. This verdict does not absolve the criminal justice system. It’s only one battle won in a 400+ year long war against racism & white supremacy, but we take our victories when and where we can. This one is for the record.
