Hello there
Allay Headcanons!
I’ve played a bit of 1.19, and I’ve already fallen in love with the little ghostly guys!
- most Allay have the cognitive abilities of a human toddler, and can be taught very rudimentary words. Not every allay likes to be verbal, however.
- Allay are delightful creatures. They will be overjoyed with any object they think is valuable, even if it’s just a discarded bottle cap or a feather. Without an object, Allay have trouble finding something to do, and while they don’t have any bad intentions, they have a habit of stealing things especially if they’re bored. They will give it back if you ask them, however.
- Allay are spiritually bound to anyone they deem their best friend, and will befriend you if you give them something to hold. Allay are incapable of hatred or anger, and get confused at the concept of it. They are naive and can’t comprehend any form of malintent - this makes them easy to be caught by Illagers, hence why you’ll see them in cages.
- Their naivety is how they can end up being warped into Vex, of whom are basically mirrored versions of Allay - they can only feel hatred and malice. Evokers take advantage of the Allay’s ability to spiritually lock with someone and that’s how they make Vex summonable from their own bodies.
- Allay need a big open space to live in, and may easily wander off, distracted. Whistling an Allay’s favourite tune can immeadiately make them come back. Allay love music as much as they love trinkets, and if you lend them your collection of music discs and teach them how to use a jukebox, they’ll be entertained for hours.
- Allay often try to befriend baby villagers, but often end up scaring them away on accident due to their eerie appearance.
- Allay do not know that they are ghosts. Their twinkling sounds are the equivalent of baby babble.
- Allay rescued from mansions may be more skittish and prone to random aggression in rare cases due to often already being partially ‘vex-ified’. They’re just frightened.
