Interesting facts:

- Unlike a number of the other Grand Masters, Alof de Wignacourt was popular with the Maltese people.

- He demonstrated the Order's maritime supremacy in the Mediterranean, expanding the navy to include a great galleon commissioned by him in Austria at 60,000 gold scudi.

- During his reign, he built the Wignacourt aqueduct and a powerful fortifications along the coasts of Malta, also named after him.

- He successfully defended the Maltese islands against a Turkish raid of 60 vessels carrying 5,000 men.

- He was famously painted by the Renaissance and Baroque artist, Caravaggio. The superb portrait can be seen at the Musée du Louvre in Paris.

- В отличие от других великих магистров, Алоф де Виньякур пользовался популярностью среди населения Мальты.

- Он продемонстрировал морское превосходство ордена, расширив военно-морской флот за счет большого галеона, заказанного в Австрии.

- За время своего правления построил акведук Виньякура и цепь оборонительных башен вдоль побережья Мальты, также названных его именем.

- Успешно защитил Мальтийские острова от турецкого набега из 60 судов с 5 тыс. человек.

- Его знаменитый портрет был написан художником эпохи Возрождения и Барокко, Караваджо. Картину можно увидеть в Музее Лувра в Париже.
