Whumper slammed their hands on the table, and Whumpee flinched.
âTell me who hired you!â Whumper demanded.
âIâI donât knowâŠâ Whumpee shrank into their chair, avoiding Whumperâs gaze.
Whumper laughed incredulously. âWhat do you mean, you donât know?â
âThey never tell me who!â Whumpeeâs voice broke. âPlease, Iâm just paid to do it and leave. They tell me nothing!â
Whumper stood and unfastened the cuff from Whumpeeâs right wrist. They lifted whumpeeâs hand slowly, turning it over, studying it like it was something delicate.
âYou like having working fingers?â Whumper asked calmly.
âPlease, donâtââ Whumpee pulled back, but Whumperâs grip tightened.
âI asked you a question.â
Whumperâs fingers clamped around Whumpeeâs ring finger and squeezed. The pressure built until the pain was nearly unbearable.
âWait! Stop! Please!â Whumpee gasped. âI donât know anything!â
Whumper twisted Whumpeeâs finger, and a crack resonated through the room. Whumpee screamed, and Whumper put a hand over Whumpeeâs mouth.
âYou want me to break another?â Whumper murmured, tilting their head. âNo? Then stop wasting my time and tell me who you work for. Iâm not asking again.â Whumper released their grip on Whumpeeâs face. âNow. The truth. Before I pick a finger you actually like.â
âI told you, I donât knowâŠâ Whumpee sobbbed, hunched over, shoulders shaking. âPlease.â
Whumper picked up a Manila folder from the table and slapped Whumpee across the face with it, leaving a bright red mark on Whumpeeâs cheek.
âTell me the truth!â Whumper snarled. âI have proof right in here that you know!â
âItâs lies!â Whumpee cried.
Whumper circled Whumpeeâs chair, leafing through the papers and photos inside the folder. âWhat could possibly be worth enduring all this pain, when honesty would be so much easier? Hmm?â
âTheyâd kill meâŠâ Whumpee said meekly.
âOh, WhumpeeâŠâ Whumper stopped to stand directly behind Whumpee and put a heavy hand on their shoulder. âNot my problem. And really, whatâs the difference if Iâm going to kill you first, anyway?â Whumper abruptly tilted Whumpeeâs chair back, tipping it over. Whumpee let out a cry as it clattered to the floor, bringing them with it.
âIâll get my answer. Whether you want me to or not.â Whumper landed one more kick to Whumpeeâs stomach before turning and leaving them in the empty room.
