The whistleblower’s identity remains a closely guarded secret. Even the person’s gender has not been publicly confirmed

In an especially chilling development, according to the CBS News 60 Minutes report, the whistleblower’s attorneys sent a letter to acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire this weekend, revealing that “certain individuals” whom the lawyers do not identify by name have placed a “$50,000 bounty” on the identity of the whistleblower.

Dictator’s tactic #10. Demonizing the opposition. Under authoritarian regimes such as Russia, Putin would imprison or kill of his political enemies.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the president spoke at a private breakfast on Thursday at the Intercontinental Hotel in New York City in which he likened the Ukraine whistleblower to a “spy” and suggested that he receive the death penalty for filing his complaint.

“I want to know who’s the person, who’s the person who gave the whistle-blower the information? Because that’s close to a spy,” Trump said. “You know what we used to do in the old days when we were smart? Right? The spies and treason, we used to handle it a little differently than we do now.”

Dictator’s tactic #1. Systematic efforts to intimidate the media.

“You know, these animals in the press,” Trump said. “They’re animals, some of the worst human beings you’ll ever meet… They’re scum. Many of them are scum, and then you have some good reporters, but not many of them, I’ll be honest with you.”

A House Foreign Affairs Committee aide told CNN that "Secretary Pompeo has failed to meet the deadline to produce documents required by the subpoena. However, the State Department has contacted the Committees on this matter and we hope the Department will cooperate in full promptly. Apart from the outstanding subpoena, we look forward to hearing from Ambassadors Sondland and Yovanovitch next week."CNN has reached out to the State Department for comment.

On Saturday, Pompeo told reporters that the US State Department had sent a letter to Congress Friday night with its "initial response" to the document request.

"We'll obviously do all the things we are required to do by law," Pompeo said, during a press conference in Athens, without elaborating on what the department's response said.

Basically, Trump hides all of his illegal calls on a classified "stand-alone computer system reserved for codeword-level intelligence information, such as covert action" protected under the highest security clearance.

The whistleblower says White House officials told them the conversation on July 25 between Trump and Zelenskiy was removed from the computer system that is typically used for such records of calls with foreign leaders.

Instead, the whistleblower writes, the transcript was loaded into a separate electronic system that is used only for information that is of an "especially sensitive nature." One White House official described that as an abuse of the secure system because there was nothing "remotely sensitive" on the phone call from a national security perspective, the whistleblower said.

According to White House officials the whistleblower spoke with, that was "not the first time" the Trump administration placed a presidential transcript "into this codeword-level system solely for the purpose of protecting politically sensitive — rather than national security sensitive — information."

Questions:

1. The whistleblower states this was "not the first time" Trump hid aka locked down calls. How many other calls are there? Calls with Putin? Calls with Mohammad Bin Salman #MBS? What other illegal activities was Trump engaged in — in the name of the U.S.?

2. Trump isn’t smart enough to know or pull this off by himself. Who in the White House or Intel Community aided and abetted?

Adam Schiff:  “By law, the whistleblower complaint which brought this gross misconduct to light should have been presented to this committee weeks ago and by you, Mr. Director, under the clear letter of the law, and yet it wasn’t.”

2. Maguire “withheld” the Complaint because of Executive Privilege even though the White House NEVER asserted Executive Privilege 💣

Adam Schiff: And at any time over the last month that you held this complaint, did the White House assert executive privilege?

... Maguire squirming not to incriminate himself by saying “YES” or “NO”

Adam Schiff:  So they never asserted executive privilege. Is that the answer?

Joseph Maguire: Mr. Chairman, if they did, we would not have released the letters yesterday and all the information that has been forthcoming.

Adam Schiff: And so the first place you went for advice as to whether you should provide the complaint as the statute requires to Congress was the White House?

Joseph Maguire:  I have consulted with the White House Counsel Counsel and eventually we also consulted with the Department of Justice, Office of Legal Counsel.

Adam Schiff:  Well, Director, I’m still trying to understand the chronology. So you first went to the Office of Legal Counsel and then you went to White House Counsel.

Joseph Maguire: We went, excuse me. And then to the … repeat that please, sir.

Adam Schiff: I’m just trying to understand the chronology. You first went to the Office of Legal Counsel and then you went to the White House Counsel?

Joseph Maguire: No, no, no sir. No sir. No, we went to the White House first to determine, to ask the question …

Adam Schiff: Okay. That’s all I want to know is chronology. So you went to the White House first, so you went to the subject of the complaint for advice first about whether you should provide the complaint to Congress?

Joseph Maguire: There were issues within this, a couple of things. One, it did appear that it has executive privilege. If it does have executive privilege, it is the White House that determines that. I cannot determine that as the Director of National Intelligence.
