A branch worth half of one percent of its bank was earning nearly all of its money from foreign customers nobody had verified.
Nobody had to trace a transaction to see it. It was in the branch's own profit line, every year, for years.
One employee read it and wrote it down on 27 December 2013. Three months later Copenhagen replied that there were "some shortcomings in customer documentation."
