Thinking about Shalla-Bal once again. I'm not a comic reader, I'm not familiar with the Silver Surfer. I've watched First Steps once two weeks ago. But I keep thinking about the horror of immortality, yes, but also the horror of your body being changed.
Instead of flesh, of skin and soft hair she is now, what? Metallic? Cold, hard to injure, hard to bend. Hard to caress, to hug, to hold as well.
If she met her daughter again, she couldn't even give her the comfort of her mother's warmth now.
Thinking about how cruel it would be if she wasn't able to cry. Yes she feels pain. Yes, she feels the need to cry. But there are no tears, never any tears.
Thinking about how difficult her relationship with her body would be. To herself she looks monstrous; It doesn't matter that she's pretty because it's not her body. It's a body that has taken so much from her, one that she doesn't recognize.
And she'd be so lonely. Hugging herself provides little warmth, touching herself does nothing. There isn't anything to touch except cold steel.
It's like she's trapped in her own ever prison, doomed to watch the world from behind a steel curtain while never, ever being able to participate in it again.
