Otakon's 2017 move
SO guys, everybody seems to be stressing out about the move to DC, but calm down.
2013 was Awesome Con DC's first year. I went for a day with friends to check it out, and they held it in Otakon's future venue, the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. It is enormous. It's beautiful. It's right on the metro. It's like three blocks away from Chinatown. I don't know about the hotels in the area since I go to school here and therefore have never visited them, but this place is, if anything, a step up from Baltimore. And don't worry! If you think you'll miss out on the disgusting heat and humidity - DC is just as bad. :)
True, there's no harbor area, but you know what? You'll be able to get amazing shots in front of marble buildings and monuments. The memorials on and around the mall in DC are fantastic and only a metro ride away. (I am concerned with the fact that the metro itself will be unbearably crowded and slow, but hey, same as ever, right?) Architecturally speaking, DC is far more beautiful than Baltimore - generally, B-more is good for grunge & city shoots and not much else. (Yes, the BCC is gorgeous but SO IS THE WEWCC.) (I should just abbreviate it 'the WEW', lol.) Also its main staircases are flippin' gorgeous for photos.
