Got any chance to take the new welder cart outside this morning even though it's not finished yet. It rolls so much nicer than the old one. Really stable and should work well. I'm back on working on floor pans in my old 64 as it needs to get wrapped up and back on the road. I'll work on finishing up the welder cart as I go along. Multi tasking multiple projects gets interesting. I got the bottle support brackets rolled and tack welded in place to fit up the rear enclosure. Still have to add a handle on the back and build some plates for the side that allow bolts to hold the rear enclosure on. Getting closer to being finished. Had to stop for lunch as its 5pm. Made some progress on the welder cart. I tried angling the two shelf supports at 95* but didn't like how it was sitting so I cut them off to be at 90* to the uprights. I may regret that later but there is always a reason to build another cart then. 😉 The square tubing was from an old awning hence the awning sticker and I will say that is some junk metal. I encountered some weird things occurring when welding it but for the price of $8 for all I can live with it. I will add tie in supports for the front edges of the shelves along with a gusset plate for the bottom uprights where they meet the base. The open ends of the tubing will be capped and handles added. I'm undecided on using rod or half moon shapes for the cord reels on the side. The wheels came from Northern Tools and are 6 X 2 no flat casters. I don't technically need that heavy duty of a wheel but wanted something that works roll outside across dirt and gravel without a problem. I only have 8 inch wide expanded metal so I will have to weld in another strip to meet the width. Had a major malfunction this morning which dumped over my welder due to a harbor freight welding cart wheel failure. The fall caused the feed rate on the welder to become erratic so I called Hobart to see what the damage cost might run if I had to take it in for repairs. Luckily the guy said pull the side cover and check to make sure something didn't get jarred loose. One of the 3 wires on the back of the feed rate potentiometer was also falling off. I slid the connection back on and checked all of the rest. Luckily that was all that was wrong and saved me about $300 as he said it might have damaged the circuit board. That was luck along with the fact that the valve on the top of the argon bottle didn't blow off. The knob wobbles some but no leaks. So add any project to the list of stuff to build for the shop, welder cart. I got this welder cart on sale from harbor freight right after I bought me first welder. Usually I don't go far inside the shop with it but this morning I rolled it outside to weld on the sheet metal floors in my car I'm working on. One slight twist to the surface the rear wheel was on folded it under like a toothpick. I'm sure if there was a video of me scrambling to catch a welder and bottle might have been something to see. Sorry to disappoint but I missed me 15 seconds of video fame. Anyways, I made an axle I could bolt up to the back of the cart to get by with till a new cart gets built.
