Things that happened in my first year of law school
I just finished my first year of college, so here we go:
We kept being stuffed in random buildings all over campus for lectures. Places of note include the super fancy exam hall (which is not built for lectures at all), the school of midwifery, the science building and the arts blockĀ
We were told some people go all through college without getting to eat in the great, old dining hall because they think weāre not allowed in (we are) so I decided a great time to do this would be my first week when I had no friends and sat alone at the longest, biggest table youāve ever seen surrounded by ancient paintings that were judging me silentlyĀ
One of our seminars got cancelled last minute cos the seminarist was, at the time, in Court fighting a caseĀ
We had an in-depth discussion in a lecture about whether pigs were cattleĀ
In another lecture we had an in-depth discussion of whether a pringle was potato-ey enoughĀ
A lecturer got tried for murderĀ
At the start of the year seeing a document was twenty pages was āwhat the hellā. At the end of the year seeing a document was twenty pages was āoh thank godā
All the gay people in the year made a group chat calledĀ āthe irreversiblesā after we learned about a case where gay rights were denied because letting people be openly gay could turn people who are onlyĀ āslightly gayā intoĀ āirreversible homosexualsā
5% of a module was logging onto a discussion board and having it out with other people in the class. The argument didnāt even have to be good, you just had to do itĀ
We were forced to read the entirety of Ryanairās terms and conditions just for the lecturer to prove a pointĀ
The chief justice of South Africa randomly came in to give us a talk and I got a photo with him afterĀ
