Thursday, March 13: Weedpecker, "Fat Karma"
One might expect a band called Weedpecker to deliver very stoned doom metal, but while the Polish act certainly cranked out a racket and “Fat Karma” came with hefty globules of bass, there was almost an ambient vibe due to Piotr Dobry’s hollering being mixed way in the back. It had a nice wandering feel to it, all the fuzz and lurching ambling along while Dobry turned up every so often to wail about… something. Doom metal in general is an ageless sound, and even if Weedpecker traded on very familiar touchstones “Fat Karma” had a charm all its own.
