Old postcard showing the grave of Alannah Worchell O’Flynn, confessed gunny witch, along with one of the half-dozen patrolling Himalayan red bears which guarded the tactically unnamed cemetery in Waycross, Georgia against the witch’s potential breakout.
Hung in 1838 from the beak of a local barn’s hay trolley, O’Flynn’s severed head was buried in a cedar box in the northeast corner of the cemetery - 100 feet from the rest of her body - in an attempt to make her revival less convenient.
High brick walls fashioned with a thick center core of densely packed rock salt were hoped to further complicate her reconstitution.
Nonetheless, Alannah O’Flynn bolted the grave on September 3rd, 2011, after the property had been purchased by Baby Gruenwald as the location for the Bubblin’ Cauldron water park (never completed), and the bears, which Gruenwald frequently referred to as “Those bad, bad bears!” sold off to Zoo Atlanta and Bear Hollow Zoo in Athens.

Historic Ware County Georgia Church Collapses
Ezekiel Congregational Methodist Church has captured the eye of many photographers over the years. For all who passed it, people would wonder how it was still hanging on. An online friend mentioned it had fallen. Oddly, there was no mention in the newspapers, and according to this image by Paul Peel on Google Maps, it’s been down for at least two months.
