Even early in life, the heir to the Burgstaller family wanted to be a soldier. Like his father, and his father before him. It was in their very name. Even when she sought magics to give her a woman's body, she still persevered in this. And it was that perseverance that led to her serving in the military. But during her time in the military, a political rift opened up between the nobility and the commoners. The nobility treated the commoners like trash, and the commoners had finally had enough. Soon, a rebellion began, and despite her allegiance, Waltraud knew that it was only right that she support the rebellion.

In doing so, she also brought the friends she had in her squad. Properly trained soldiers weren't the only thing that the rebellion needed, but it couldn't hurt. Eventually, she made a name for herself- leading attacks against the royalty and minimizing casualties, though often she lost one or two of her soldiers on the way. Such was the way of war. By the end of the war, she had garnered a fearsome reputation, and an even more fearsome set of skills. She was deadly with her longsword and off-handed dagger, and the very image of these weapons had become a symbol for the rebellion itself. By the end, she had lost everyone she had ever held dear, and stood behind the few remaining royals as they were forced to sign the agreement that the rebellion had agreed on.

Democracy was established in what was once a kingdom, but she found no peace. Even with the kindness she was shown, the dinners and celebrations, the speeches she attended... she couldn't eat or sleep, the memories of the horrors committed upon her and committed by her very hand haunting her every step. After falling unconscious in her home, she was brought to an abbey dedicated to the Goddess of Peace. After the first night's sleep she'd had in months, she spoke to the nuns about her plight, and was offered a spot as a nun, which she took, eager for any deliverance from her torment.
