German vintage postcard
A U.S. Army soldier wearing a replica of the Imperial Crown of the Holy Roman Empire in a photograph taken after Allied forces discovered it hidden in a mine in Siegen, Germany (April 3, 1945). While often misidentified as the original, experts believe this is a 1915 replica made in Aachen, as the authentic crown was hidden in Nuremberg during the war. The original crown, dating to 962 AD, is now part of the Imperial Treasury in Vienna, Austria. Also note the M1911A1 pistol in the shoulder holster.
