Happy 77th birthday John Noble!
August 20th 1948
I've been rewatching Fringe and I just finished 3x07.
Alt-Broyles has this scene where he's talking to Walternate and he's a little panicked because the psycho who had kidnapped his son was on the loose again and he was scared that his son would be a target again. Alt-Broyles says this thing about how he wishes "their Olivia" was back from Universe A so that she could assist with this case. The implication being that needed her more than they needed our Olivia. It just got me thinking. There is no way that this case would have been solved without our Olivia. There's no way that Broyles son would have been saved without our Olivia. Despite the evil of what they did to our Olivia by kidnapping her... despite that they should thank their lucky stars that they had her there... especially Broyles since she saved his son. Fauxlivia did not have the empathy needed to save Broyles son, Christopher. Our Olivia has so much empathy and is so good with children. Specifically her empathy with children is next level. It was our Olivia who insisted that she speak to Christopher again and it was that conversation that illuminated some important information. The thing with Olivia is that she is not just simply empathetic. She is tenaciously empathetic. Fauxlivia has a tenacity but as we see her tenacity was funneled into her evil scheme that was formulated by Walternate. She sexually abused Peter and she worked to destroy Universe A and she had a tenacity in that. A tenacity for the mission. But our Olivia is tenacious in protecting people and not just people she loves but every person in the world she would save if she could.
Fauxlivia never had a niece but Olivia has a niece that she babysat and cared for a lot. And to see how that softened our Olivia is so compelling.
All this to say I was a bit pissed off at Broyles for underestimating our Olivia but it did make it more satisfying when Broyles appreciated what Olivia did and also saved her subsequently.
