I would say spoilers ahead….but we all know that’s not true. I will never say this again so listen well…I HATE being right about this. I wanted so much to be wrong about The Walking Dead finale. Uuuuunfortunately, my predictions were accurate and the fury began. I’m not going to do a recap on this one because I have a lot to say, so let’s get down to really talking about the important stuff. We have a Walking Dead civil war going on. I mean, this is bigger than the ongoing Playstation v. Xbox debate, bigger than Batman v. Superman. There are those that are perfectly happy with how it ended and more often those are in denial and don’t want to see the death of a beloved character. The majority of us are NOT happy and let me explain why. I have seen people being accused as not being a true fan for being upset. I have been text yelled at by my own mother over it. It’s the digital version of the Hatfield’s and the McCoys. This is serious guys! I can’t speak for everyone but, as a tried and true Walking Dead fan, I am going to explain why this season finale was hands down the worst in Walking Dead history to me personally. This whole season has been intense. I mean, think about it. Everything that has happened has happened in a matter of days in the shows timeline. Now, if you want a REALLY interesting theory as to why that is, you should YouTube The Film Theorists episode on when The Walking Dead will end. It’s amazing. There has been many cliffhangers in the season (in all seasons really) and that has never been a problem. So WHY is it such a big deal with this finale? In my opinion, it feels like the producers don’t trust the fans. The introduction of Negan has been played with since the beginning of the season and especially for those familiar with the comics, his premier was HUGE. We stressed over who would play him and when it was Jeffrey Dean Morgan, I was personally shocked but pleasantly so. I love me some Supernatural and John Winchester was a hottie, so I was excited to walk him on a loved show again. Negan is a hottie too, not gonna lie. He is perfect, truly. He plays Negan just right. You are simultaneously aroused and scared of him at the same time. So, there is no complaint there. What producers need to realize is Negan is enough to bring us back next season. They hyped the character death so much that to skip out on it was low and a cheap TV gimmick. Now, I have a theory as to WHY. Maybe it wasn’t for the ratings or the endless commercials. Maybe they want to wait to decide which character to kill until the ratings of Norman Reedus’s new show comes out and they can determine if they are going to allow him to expand on that. Maybe literally NO ONE KNOWS who is going to die because they haven’t decided yet. That, too is a low blow. Had they just presented the cliffhanger without all of the hype and the “who’s going to die” drama, then we wouldn’t be having this issue. HOWEVER, since the death of a main character was the subject of everything Walking Dead for months, leaving us in the dark for another half a year is just fucked up. It was the television equivalent of a cock tease. Not cool guys. Now, do I think Scott M. Gimple should be fired? No. He did what he thought would bring the viewer back next season which is what a businessman would do. But it wasn’t the correct thing to do. Even if Negan had killed half out survivors we would still come back to see Negan and his sexy ass jacket at work. I know they said the reason is because this is the end of one story and the death is the beginning of the next, but really, I don’t buy it. This may come back to bite them in the ass and despite all my bitching, I’ll be back next season. But I really hope they learn from this. This was cheap. This was low. I’ve heard many say this….who did Negan kill? The fan base. Please Scott, please Robert, please AMC...learn from this. The fans of this show are dedicated and we are smart. Don’t jerk us around because like Negan, we are ruthless and just may take a bat to our love for the show and kill it forever. Please don’t let that happen and cry wolf with multiple dead fake outs and tv gimmicks. So, we will see how next season and the fans fare. Until then, stay creepy and remember….they’re coming to get you.
