Earl’s Court Police Box
Vworp! Vworp!
Countless pedestrians wander past this blue box outside Earl’s Court tube station without giving it a second glance. Perhaps it has a rather good perception filter in operation?
The police box was installed in 1996, intended to be a modern update of a classic 1920’s design. It came complete with phone for public use in contacting the police, and CCTV to monitor any ne’er-do-wells; neither are functional today. There were plans to install further police boxes across London, though these were soon abandoned.
There is a rumour that this was always intended to be a one-off, as perhaps not-so-coincidentally, this police box was installed around the same time the BBC tried to copyright the image of police boxes for TARDIS and Doctor Who merchandising purposes.
