#HappyNewYear! #2016 #WhiskeyOfTheYear bottles have been tasted, and it's time for some winners. Let's start right here in the good ol U. S. of A! The #AmericanWhiskey segment typically has been thought of as #Bourbon or #Rye. Now the US whiskey market is rapidly booming. #StraightBourbon is now joined by #StraightRye, #StraightCorn, and #StraightWheat. American malts are growing rapidly as well. Because of the scarcity of barrels, there has been huge expansion in the Blended Bourbon/Whisky designation. The purist hate it but I enjoy the new experiments and wine cask maturation now being introduced to us here in the states. ON to the CROWN!!!👑 2016 #RyeWhiskey of the yeast goes to the #VanWinkleReserveRye 13yr. This is the most unrye I've had to date. It's smell of melted caramel and drizzled white chocolate. There is a slight wisp of licorice and sweet baking spices. #VWFRR drinks like butter cream frosting on top of fresh buttermilk pancakes, with a little drizzle of cinnamon and Brown sugar. It's rich and viscous and ultra smooth. Well done @buffalotrace! I hope next fall brings a great new edition of Rye in the spirit of the way #PappyVanWinkle did it so many years ago.
