Dungeons & Dragons - Vulthreck

Here we have a couple of commissions for my good friend @betweenrivers-betweenworlds.

1. Which should be saved – a bus full of innocent lives or a loved one?

Helio: “I’d find a way to save both, don’t worry.”Vulthreck: “If it’s my cousin Abraxas, sure. The rest of my clan can burn forall I care though.”Agapito: *on the verge of tears* “…my loved one?”

2. You meet a man who has killed someone and done time for it before. Doesthis factor into how you treat him? Will he ever truly escape that sin?

Helio: “I think everyone has a chance at redemption. They have to show thatthey’ve earned it, but simply having killed someone and served out one’ssentence isn’t something to judge someone on. It’s how they feel about it now –does he regret having done so? Would he do it again? Why? Does he show remorse?”Vulthreck: “Is he someone I have a bounty on? If so, it makes him a little moredangerous and someone to keep an eye on when I haul him back to the peoplepaying me. If not, it makes him a little more dangerous, but a potential asset,and someone to keep an eye on.”Agapito: “Murder is wrong. There are some sins you can’t walk away from – nor shouldyou. You’re going to carry that weight.”

6. If you tell the truth, an evil person gets to walkaway free. If you lie, you may be able to send them away like they deserve. Ishonesty worth more than justice?

Helio: “If it’s not done right, it’s not worth doing. I’ll find another wayto prevent the evil from causing further harm.”Vulthreck: “What goes around comes around. Lock the bastard up. If he breaksfree? Pay me to round him up again. I’ll give him a black eye for his troubles,free of charge.”Agapito: “Is it right to punish a greater sin by committing a smaller, personalsin?”

11. Imagine there is a beast that craves attention. Ifyou ignore it, despite being deadly, it will leave you alone. Could you livelike that? Even if it possibly attacked others? Would you try and challengesomething that unknown?

Helio: “You can’t just pretend a problem doesn’t exist and hope it goesaway. You have to confront it and deal with it. No matter the consequences.”Vulthreck: “So wait, you’re telling me that all I have to do – ALL I have to do– is just ignore it and it’ll leave me alone? Sounds like a deal to me.”Agapito: “I would take that burden on as my own. I won’t let others be hurt fora sin I have been saddled with.”

17. Have you ever gotten sheer joy out of hurtingsomeone else, either physically or mentally? To whom and why? Did it scare you?

Helio: “It’s never a pleasure to fight. It is a duty, to protect others fromharm, and I’m sometimes afraid I resort to it more quickly when more diplomaticavenues still exist, so I try as hard as I can to prevent it from getting tothat point.”Vulthreck: “I try not to mix business with pleasure. I’ve seen a few colleagueswho get a little too into the beatings and they ook me out a bit. Now, there aresome bounties that I’ve enjoyed roughing up, but only cuz they were annoying ashell and wouldn’t shut up. But it’s not a general thing for me.”Agapito: “Not once.”

20. Are there people in this world who, no matter howmuch time and penitence is given, should never be forgiven?

Helio: “Like I said before, everyone has a chance to walk in the light. Ifthey are seeking true redemption, it will be found.”Vulthreck: “Oh I have a name or two who I will attend to personally, don’t youworry.”Agapito: “Yes.”

24. How do you feel about tears? Are they cowardly andweak? Do you cry? Would you consider that shameful?

Helio: “I mean, okay. I’ve uh. I had a thing I call The Heartbreak when Iwas a teenager and uh. I cried. A lot. But tears in general aren’t bad.”Vulthreck: “Tears are tears. Sometimes you shout, sometimes you bleed,sometimes you cry. It’s a kind of pain, and pain is weakness leaving the body.So let it happen. And make sure whatever caused it doesn’t happen again.”Agapito: “I cry happy tears, sad tears, tired tears, all the time. I’m cryingright now. It’s kind of my thing.”

31. What is more important to you? Being respected andpraised by your elders or being looked up to and championed by those younger orof the same age?

Helio: “I revere the wisdom of my elders, but I want to be a positive rolemodel for all those I know. I want to show them there is a path forward forall.”Vulthreck: “Neither. I am to be respected for my power, no matter who Iencounter.”Agapito: “I like friends, and I like being looked up to. It’s a nice feeling.”

33. If you could wipe certain memories from your head,would you? Why would you? What memories?

Huh that’s. That’s a good question. The smartass answer is that they’re all made by me.
