-Vriesea splendens
My first bromeliad, Vriesea splendens. Let's hope I don't regret my choice in getting a fancier variety first.
She's a vase bromeliad, which means that she has a cup that would get filled with water in the wild. The idea of filling a crown with water makes me a bit nervous, but that's part of why I was so intrigued by this type of bromeliad - though as you may have guessed, I'm also a big fan of spots and stripes. 😁
Vriesea fenestralis
January 15, 2020 Bromeliaceae Vriesea I didn’t know what this plant was when I first saw it in a greenhouse. At the time the plant had a bright orange flower that has since turned green and had significantly fewer leaves than what is seen now. Due to his striped leaves, he has earned the name Stripe.
I was away for about a month and was genuinely impressed by his growth during that time. I have a feeling he really is enjoying the corner spot on my desk. I am starting to wonder if he is in the spot that gets the most light... Top photo: what he presently looks like Bottom photo: a month ago

Vriesea are bromeliads native to Central and South America. Within the Vriesea genus there are hundreds of different species and cultivars. This display at the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Show, London, gave a glimpse of the amazing range of foliage patterns.

Ship Change: Guzma/Molayne → Guzma/Molayne/Kahili Kahili and Molayne are married and then Guzma’s just also there. I call it NineIronShipping.
Vriesea is now Guzma and Molayne’s bio daughter. They also have two more kids - Vinca, who is Guzma and Kahili’s daughter, and Vitis, who is Kahili and Molayne’s son. Vinca and Vitis aren’t twins, but they were born within two weeks of each other so they consider themselves twins.
I don’t even know what to say anymore.
