I don’t think Gringos realize how fucked up the Voting ID thing is. It is so fucked up that the most moral thing to do is advocate against Voting ID. How bad a voting system has to be that demanding voters to prove their identity is a discriminatory measure?
I’m gonna tell you something: In any reasonable Electoral System, you HAVE TO have a photo ID to prove you are who you claim to be and that you aren’t pretending to be someone else to vote multiple times; this is very important to prevent voting fraud. Not so in the United States; in the USA, you can’t ask people for a photo ID, because many people don’t have a photo ID, they literally have no way to prove their identity! If you want a photo ID you have to make a special effort and usually pay money.
And why is it like that? Because Fuck the Poor! That’s why!
Voting fraud is a big deal and being able to prove your identity is important, so the Government should take responsibility to provide every citizen with a reliable photo ID for free. It’s not hard, Costa Rica does it and our GDP is like 1000 times less!
