At least You're Here With Me - Klance fic (From the poll)
Here is the archive version if you prefer that: ALYHWM (At least you're here with me)
Here we go! Happy reading :)
The purple lights illuminate Lance's face. The constant sound of metal against his shoes keep him awake. Keith is running in front of him, his black mullet peaking from under his helmet.
Lance was reluctant to come on this mission at first, plunging head first into a garla base to collect some glowing rock that they need to power the lions, hell no.
But as soon as he heard who his partner would be, he signed right up. Keith fucking Kogane. His stupidly perfect hair, eyes, jaw, just everything!
It makes Lance frustrated on how fast he changed his mind. How he didn't think twice before he said, "I'm in," to Coran.
He doesn't even bloody like me, Lance thinks to himself as he runs behind Keith, why am I still trying.
“Over here Lance!” Keith snaps, as though he knew Lance was getting distracted. His cheeks burn under his helmet.
They are so close to finding it, Coran wouldn't stop yapping about it, "It's crucial to powering the lions" Coran had said, "You need this mission to go smothly". They had set out maps on the main table, and told Keith and Lance everything they needed to know about the base. The possible escape routes, the weaknesses of the ship, they know so much, it's going to be imposssible for anything to go wrong.
After this is done Lance can then head back to the castle and relax, maybe touch up on his skin care.
His breath fogs up his helmet, and Lance’s heartbeat pounds in his ears. The corridors stretch on, an endless tunnel of metal and purple light.
Keith then stops suddenly, and Lance almost rams into him.
“Fucking hell Kei-“ Lance is cut off by the sight in front of them. A large metal door with several engravings. Strings of purple light flow through the door, and its shaped out with round corner, almost like an upside down U.
Lance checks his map, this is the right place. Before this mission, pidge also gave them a semi-accurate map of the base so they didn't get lost. She had said that they weren't perfectly accurate, as her lion had scanned the outisde of the base not the inside. But the maps would get the job done as long as we didn't go wandering.
A control panel is placed near the door, they both look at it, and Keith gets out a USB from his pocket. He flips it around a bit then looks at Lance.
“Well, this is it Lance," Keith says sternly while putting in Pidge’s over-riding USB into the slot, "Get ready for a fight.”
A fight? I thought this was a stealth mission. I hope my face doesn't get banged up too badly, it'll muck up my skin.
The door creaks then slowly starts to slide up open. Lance has his rifle loaded, ready to fight.
Thoughts flit through his mind, and everything seems to be happening in slow motion.
Keith is beside him with his bayard activated and Lance can't help but notice the glint in his dark eyes, and the determination etched into his features. Lance takes in the sight of him, the way his jaw tightens when he's focused, the slight curve of his lips.
Then Keith slips through the gap in the door, Lance is reluctantly snaped out of his daze and follows.
The room is massive, large walls cruve up around them creating a dome. A small podium is placed directly in the centre of the room, floating above it is a rock, about the size of an orange. It emits blue light, and doesn't even look real.
They both scan the room —There’s no one here.
“Keith... remember how you said that there would be a fight, where’s that fight?” Lance says boredly, placing his hand on his hip, and letting his rifle drop. The room is illuminated with purple light, making it a little hard to see.
Keith looks around, then back at Lance, shadows are cast onto his face, making his features stand out even more.“I’m-I’m not sure Lance.”
Lance chuckles, “Well, that makes our job 100% easier,” He wastes no more time and starts walking to the orb.
The orb is still suspended mid air, and Lance is about to reach out and grab it when Keith interrupts him.
“Lance wait. I don’t like this, it doesn’t feel right, we should ask pidge."
"Keith, Pidge knows as much as us, and plus there's literally no one here." Lance motions his hands to the empty room. "So let me just grab the orb, and then we can then run along."
Keith looks uncertainly at Lance, "What if it's a trap?"
"Please," Lance sarcastically, "This little orb is probably worth nothing, and have you seen the garla, they're dumb as rocks"
Keith raises his voice, and has an annoyed expression on his face, "Lance that orb is probably worth everything! Why else would they have it suspended mid air in a empty room!?"
Lance waves Keiths statments away and says, "Pish posh." He then reaches out and gently grabs the orb, it sits nicely in his palm.
Keith braces himself, and —nothing happens.
Lance laughs a bit, "This mission has turned out to be heck easy," He says a bit too confidently, "Lets get out of here!"
Lance takes off toward the door, Keith sighs and matches his pace. But just as they’re about to reach it, Lance hears footsteps, then spots movement down the hallway,
He grabs Keith by the arm, and pulls them both against the wall, staying out of sight.
that couldn't of been.. Lance thinks
"What are you doing Lance?" Keith whispers harshly. He's trying to get a look at what's past the door, but Lance won't let him, he doesn't want to get spotted.
"There's-there's something or someone down there," Lance whispers back.
Keith sighs, obviously frustrated, "I told you it was a trap!"
"Well... we haven't actually been trapped yet, so I'm still right. The thing out there is probably just passing by," Lance says, frustration lacing his voice.
"Lance this is not the time. We need a plan, " Keith groans, rubbing his temples.
Lance tries to think, wait untill they pass? But what if they're coming into this room, think Lance think! The orb is still in his hand, he holds it tighter.
"Just give me a second I'm trying to think!" Keith snaps. Lance huffs then presses himself against the wall again.
Keiths eyes dart to the door beside them, then to the empty room. There’s no escape if they’re spotted.
Suddenly, a blaring alarm shatters the silence, red lights flashing wildly. Lance doesn’t hesitate—his hand shoots to his bayard, gripping it tightly as his pulse quickens.
Lance tucks the orb into his pocket, they both know whats coming.
A sharp clank echoes, followed by the rhythmic stomp of heavy boots.
Bots burst into the room and shots start to rapid fire all around. The alarm is still blaring making everything utter chaos. Keith dives out of the firing range. Dozens of tin senrties pour into the room, all eqquipped with weapons.
Lance frantically dodges a few bullets, and starts shooting. One, two, three, sentry corpses lay around the room, but that doesn't stop more from pouring in. They're everywhere. A blast shoots past him and he dives to the right,
Hundreds of metal bots firing at him, but they seem....bigger, stronger, and smarter. They adapt to Lance's fighting techniques, which is making it more difficult by the second.
He continues firing bullets. Shot after shot, he doesn't miss a single one. Keith is across the room, slicing the bots effortlesly. A bot is sneaking up on Keith, It's about to shoot at him, Keith doesn't notice.
"Keith behind you!" Lance shouts as he shoots the bot. The bullet hits it and it falls to the ground with a loud bang. Keith spins around, quickly looking at the bot and then Lance.
As quickly as it happened, the moment is over. Keith shifts his focus back to the sentries, while Lance turns to face the crowd of bots.
More of them approach Lance, but just like before he shoots them down, his aim has always been impeccable.
Another sentry rushes toward Lance, and he fires—only for it to dodge.
He fires again, and it dodges a second time. On the third shot, he finally lands a hit, but the effort leaves him stunned. Since when could these bots dodge? Did Zarkon finally scrape together the budget for upgrades?
Shaking his head, Lance brushes it off as bad luck and keeps moving. But he’s quickly proven wrong. Each shot feels harder to land, and it’s taking more and more effort to bring them down.
His rifle has gotten into a rythm of shot after shot, the clunk of the bullet firing is almost comforting. The bots keep coming, and the effort is breathtaking.
After a few more shots, a faint click reaches his ears. He tries to fire again—click.
Lance looks around, they're coming on fast. He looks over at Keith, he's still doing fine, although he almost looks tired.
He tries to contact the rest of a team through the comms. He quickly presses the button on his helmet and gets nothing but static.
A bot fires at him—Lance dodges just in time. A metal hand lunges for him, but he slams it down with his rifle. Without hesitation, Lance leaps onto the bot, grips its head, and twists with all his strength. The harsh crunch of metal echoes in his ears as the bot collapses beneath him.
More and more, they don't stop. There is no way out of this one.
Another bot barrels toward him, but Lance dodges it in one swift motion, diving behind a fallen sentry for cover as gunfire tears through the air.
Something cold and metallic clamps around his ankle—a robot hand. It yanks Lance off his feet and throws him over to the far side of the room.
Lance grunts as he collides with the wall, the impact is harsh and fast. He slides down the wall and onto the ground. Blood is pumping in his ears, making it hard to hear.
He gets up onto his feet, ignoring the pain that throbs through his entire body.
He's too busy checking himself for damage that he doesnt even register the other robot shooting at him.
He only sees it when it's too late, a bullet heading straight for his shoulder.
What's he yelling at me for? I'm handling this perfectly, and since when was he watching this, this is going to be embarassing to try and explain.
The impact is sharp, like a hot knife being driven into his shoulder. The air leaves his lungs and he stumbles backwards.
All he can feel is pain. Gut-wrenching, agonizing pain. It's presence is unforgiviable.
Lance grunts and brings his hand up to his shoulder. He quickly takes it away and stares at his hand. It's coated in blood.
More sentries are approaching and fast. Lance is sitting on the ground, although his vision's a bit foggy, he forces himself to get up.
Something slams into Lance, he didn't see it coming. A bot has him in it's arms. A cold metal hand is wrapped around Lances neck. The sentry stares at him, like it's deciding it's next move.
"...Pl....ea-ease," Lance's voice comes out as a whisper. The bot, almost as though to tease Lance, stabs something sharp into the flesh of his thigh.
"Lance!" Keith almost shreiks.
Tears sting Lance's eyes, and he lets out a squeak. He feels liquid start to stream down his leg. Blood, he's covered in it now.
Lance can't see Keith, but wishes he could. His beautiful dark eyes, strong jaw. Maybe this is the last time Lance will ever see Keith. The thought hadn’t hit him until now, but given the state he’s in, the odds aren’t in his favor.
His mind drifts to his family, wondering how they’ll take the news. It could be another six months before they even find out, and the thought of them waiting, unaware, makes him sadden. He already misses them more than words can say.
Suddenly, Lance drops out of the robots grip and onto the floor. The bot collapses infront of him. someone is there, kneeling over him. He can barely hear or see them. But they're yelling, it's making his head hurt even more.
His mouth is moving but Lance can't hear any words form, it's all one dull throb in the back of his mind. Keith has tears streaming down his face, and he's looking at lance up and down. Blood covers parts of Keiths face, he has a gash on his forehead that Lance so desperately wants to attend to.
Keith gets up instantly, Lance almost wants to tell him not to leave. He's in so much pain, but can't scream or yell, or do anything to relieve it. He wants to cry and chase after them, but he can barely move.
His vision is starting to clear, and he can the see Keith fighting the bots infront of him, Keith looks angry.
"K..keith..." Lance whispers, it's barelly audible, but Keith whips his head around and looks at Lance.
While Keith is staring at Lance, he doesn't notice another bot swinging a peice of metal at Keith. It colllides with his head.
Keith stumbles backward, and swings his bayard at the robot, he misses, and the bot slams him toward the ground. It pins him, and Keith squirms under its weight.
"Lance!" Keith looks hysterical, "Get out of here! Run!" His words are only just starting to form properly.
But he can't move, he can't yell, he can't do anything. Keith is desperately trying to free himself. Just then, Lance feels something small prick into his arm, he looks up to see no other than sendak standing above him. His grin is an ugly evil smile, and he looks amused.
"Well done paladin," He says his voice is scratchy and deep. Senadk doesn't once look at Lance, but rather the graveyard that surrounds them.
Lance looks over at Keith, someone else is standing above him, holding a needle up to his arm. Keith tries to get them away, but it's no use, and the needle plunges into his arm. He looks at Lance desperately one last time before his head falls and he stops moving.
Lances head is beginning to feel light, tears pool at his eyes, and sendak chuckles.
"There's no need to cry paladin, you're in capable hands." Sendak says as he reaches into Lances pocket, and grabs out the orb. "I believe this is mine." Sendak chuckles.
That's the last thing Lance hears before everything fades out.
