#vetch

I love the Earthsea books, but something that kind of breaks my heart whenever I reread them is that we never see Vetch again after A Wizard of Earthsea. Vetch is such a kind and supportive presence to Ged in the first book, he's his first real friend who makes him feel welcome when he's alone in a scary new place, he's the first person who shares his true name with Ged (something Ged does a lot in the later books, I might add), and he goes with Ged to the end of the earth to face the shadow that's haunting him, like?? Those men love each other. I get they were on different paths and Ursula had other stories to tell with Tenar and Lebannen and such (all stories I love), but never getting even a passing reference to Vetch in any of the other books is so sad.
