The Abu Dhabi sun was already beginning to dip, the heat softening into that golden, end-of-day glow that made everything feel slower, richer, almost unreal.
Max adjusted Yn on his hip as they stepped out of the car in front of The Galleria Al Maryah Island. The mall gleamed in front of them, glass and marble reflecting the sky like something out of a movie.
Yn, four years old and already very used to paddocks, private jets, and places most people only saw on Instagram, rested her cheek against Maxâs shoulder. Her curls were slightly messy, her tiny sneakers dangling as she kicked lazily.
Behind them, Lando let out a low whistle.
âMate,â he said, looking up at the building. âYou sure weâre allowed in here? I feel underdressed and emotionally unprepared.â
Daniel laughed, reaching over and scooping Yn up effortlessly. âRelax, Norris. If they try to kick us out, Iâll distract them with my charm.â
Yn immediately perked up in Danielâs arms, small hands grabbing the collar of his shirt.
âUncle Danny,â she mumbled happily.
âThere she is,â Daniel said softly, pressing his forehead to hers. âMy favorite little jet-setter.â
Oscar walked alongside them, hands in his pockets, smiling quietly at the scene. âShe looks exhausted.â
âShe skipped her nap,â Max replied calmly. âAgain.â
Yn yawned dramatically, her mouth opening wide as if on cue, then buried her face into Danielâs chest.
âTraitor,â Max muttered. âI carry you all day and the moment Daniel shows upââ
âShe has taste,â Lando interrupted. âExcellent taste.â
They headed inside, the mall instantly cooler, quieter, filled with soft music and the subtle scent of expensive perfume. Ynâs eyes fluttered between open and closed as Daniel carried her through the wide corridors.
They found a small luxury café tucked between designer stores, all white marble tables and gold accents. Tea was ordered, along with an excessive plate of biscuits that Yn poked at lazily before losing interest.
Oscar watched her carefully. âSheâs really out of it.â
âSheâll crash any minute,â Daniel said, rocking her gently. âHonestly, I could carry her all day.â
âI know,â Max replied flatly. âYouâd steal her if you could.â
Daniel grinned. âTempting.â
Yn lifted her head just enough to point weakly at Lando.
âUncle Lan⊠biscuit.â
Lando immediately slid the plate toward her. âAnything for you, boss.â
She nibbled one, crumbs sticking to her fingers, then leaned back into Daniel again, eyes drooping.
They stayed there for a while, talking about the season, the race weekend, laughing quietly. It was easy. Comfortable. One of those rare moments where everything felt normal.
Eventually, they stood and continued walking through the mall.
Yn was nearly asleep now, head tucked under Danielâs chin, her small arm draped around his neck. Her breathing had gone slow and even.
They were passing store after store when suddenly Yn stirred.
She lifted her head slightly.
âShiny,â she whispered.
Daniel slowed. âHm?â
Yn lifted her hand, pointing weakly. âGlitter.â
They all followed her finger.
The Rolex storefront stood there, glowing. Glass cases, perfectly lit, diamonds and gold catching the light and throwing it back in a thousand tiny sparks.
Ynâs eyes widened just a little more.
âStop,â she murmured.
Max stopped immediately.
Lando blinked. âDid⊠did she just command us?â
âYes,â Oscar said calmly. âAnd we listened.â
Daniel chuckled, shifting Yn slightly. âYou like the sparkles, huh?â
She nodded once, very seriously, then yawned again.
Max stepped closer to the display, crouching slightly so he was at her eye level. âYou like that?â
âMhm,â she said, then rested her head back on Danielâs shoulder again, interest already fading.
Lando laughed softly. âThat was the shortest attention span Iâve ever seen.â
Max straightened.
âLetâs go inside.â
All three of them froze.
ââŠWhat?â Lando said.
Daniel looked between Max and the store. âMate, sheâs asleep.â
Oscar added carefully, âAlso, this is⊠Rolex.â
âYes,â Max said simply, already walking toward the entrance.
They exchanged looks but followed.
Inside, the store was quiet, elegant. A sales assistant immediately approached, smiling politely.
âGood evening,â she said. âWelcome.â
Max nodded. âHello.â
The womanâs eyes flicked briefly to Yn, then back to Max. âHow can I help you today?â
Max glanced around the display, then said, calmly, casuallyâ
âIâd like to buy the entire collection on display.â
Silence.
Absolute, deafening silence.
Lando actually choked. âYouâ what?â
Danielâs eyebrows shot up. âMax.â
Oscar stared. âThe⊠whole collection?â
The sales assistant blinked. Once. Twice.
âIâm sorry, sir, did you sayââ
âYes,â Max repeated. âEverything in this section.â
The womanâs professional smile faltered for just a fraction of a second before she recovered. âOf course, sir. If youâd like, I canââ
âThatâs fine,â Max said. âJust let me know the total.â
Lando leaned closer, voice low. âMate, are you okay?â
Daniel whispered, âBlink twice if this is a cry for help.â
Oscar looked at Yn, still half asleep, completely uninterested. âThis is for⊠her?â
âYes.â
They stared at him.
âFor Yn?â Lando echoed incredulously.
Max nodded like this was the most normal thing in the world.
Daniel let out a laugh. âShe doesnât even know where she is.â
Yn shifted slightly, murmuring something incoherent, her tiny fingers clutching Danielâs shirt.
Lando shook his head. âWhy?â
Max finally looked at them, expression calm, almost amused.
âFor her future.â
Oscar hesitated. âHer⊠future?â
âSo she doesnât bring home some loser boyfriend one day who canât live up to her standards.â
Silence again.
Thenâ
Lando burst out laughing. âYouâre insane.â
Daniel snorted. âFour years old and already intimidating future partners.â
Oscar rubbed the back of his neck. âWhat standards?â
Max reached into his phone.
âIâll show you.â
He pulled up a photo and turned the screen toward them.
It was Ynâs closet.
Perfectly organized, soft lighting, rows of tiny designer dresses and coats. But that wasnât what made them freeze.
Shelves of handbags. Miniature, yesâbut unmistakably luxury. Jewelry trays lined with diamonds, gold, gemstones.
Landoâs mouth fell open. âIs thatââ
âYeah,â Max said proudly. âAnd that. And that.â
Daniel squinted. âAre thoseââ
âVan Cleef. Cartier. A few others.â
Oscar looked stunned. âSheâs four.â
âShe has taste,â Max replied calmly.
Lando let out a weak laugh. âI didnât even own furniture at four.â
Max zoomed in on another photo. âShe likes this one best.â
A delicate Cartier necklace, pink diamonds catching the light.
âShe calls it her âprincess necklace,ââ Max said, voice softening slightly. âPink is her favorite.â
Daniel glanced down at Yn. âShe doesnât even wear it.â
Max gently took Yn from Danielâs arms, careful not to wake her. He lifted her small sleeve slightly.
There, on her wrist, were thin Van Cleef bracelets, delicate and unmistakable.
âTheyâre light,â Max said. âShe doesnât like heavy jewelry. Says it gets in the way when she plays.â
Lando stared. âShe⊠told you that?â
Max nodded. âVery clearly.â
Oscar smiled softly despite himself. âThatâs actually really sweet.â
âShe only wears a little when weâre out,â Max continued. âMost of the time she doesnât want anything on. I donât force it.â
The sales assistant returned quietly, tablet in hand. âSir, whenever youâre readyââ
Max nodded, handed over his card, not even looking at the total.
The beep of the machine sounded absurdly normal.
Lando shook his head slowly. âYou just bought enough jewelry to bankrupt a small country.â
Max shrugged. âSheâs my whole life.â
Yn stirred slightly as Max lifted her back into his arms, one tiny hand curling around his shirt.
âPapa?â she mumbled.
âIâm here,â Max whispered immediately, kissing her hair.
She sighed contentedly and fell back asleep.
The others watched, the shock slowly melting into something warmer.
Daniel smiled softly. âSheâs lucky.â
Lando nodded. âYeah. Spoiled rotten, but⊠loved.â
Oscar added quietly, âSheâs everything to you.â
Max didnât deny it.
As they walked out of the store, bags discreetly carried by an assistant behind them, Max adjusted Yn gently, shielding her from the lights.
âShe doesnât need all of this,â he said softly. âBut sheâll never need to wonder if sheâs valued.â
The mall glittered around them.
Yn slept peacefully.
And for Max, nothing else mattered.
