I believe I made a post about it hereâŠ.? Though Iâm not sure how deeply I got into it.
Thereâs a lot of trauma I have to work through before Iâll be in a good enough place to continue in any sort of regular fashion, but it really does mean a lot to me that you care.

Although not the worst of the worst possible updates for me or all of you, it is still with the heaviest of hearts that I write up this post for all of you right now.
For a lot of reasons that I mostly wonât get into here, this year has been veryâŠrough on me, and the state of my mental health has fell very drastically since last I was able to update Cherish.
When I write for Cherish, one of the very most important fuels to my fire and which has helped me to emote properly with the dialogue and overall mood of the story was a certain prevailing sense of hope and faith in certain concepts regarding relationships that I currently cannot for the life of me bring myself to feel, no matter how hard I have tried.
I want this fic to be perfect when it is finally finished, and right now, I just donât believe I can contribute the feeling and soul in this story that it deserves, so until further notice, Cherish is going to be taking a slightly more long-term hiatus.
This could change easily at any time; I have no way of knowing for certain that tomorrow, I wonât wake up feeling ready and willing to tackle everything again, or that a surprise chapter may not come out here or there relatively unforewarned, but I also donât want to leave my readers hanging, wondering if the fic has abandoned, when it very certainly hasnât, but is rather just taking a long slumber.
Nevertheless, I hope youâll continue to stick around; just because the fic is taking a break, that doesnât mean that I will never be making or finishing artwork for it, or that I wonât be talking about it, or sharing Cherish Development Notes, or anything else. Cherish was, is, and always be dear to me, and I have no intention of letting go of it just because of this; Iâm just a little tired right now emotionally, and I need to take some time to recover, so that I might devote to this project the love and attention it dearly deserves.
Thank you for your understanding, and I look forward to what the future can still bring for all of us and for Cherish as a whole.
It might have taken me a good six months, but Iâve finally managed to finish cleaning up and coloring the old sketch Iâd made and released on the second anniversary of my beloved on-going fic, Cherish.
Although much time has passed since then and Iâve currently been on a bit of a mental health break, my gratitude and happiness at the successfulness of this story has never faded even a little.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you all once more, and I hope youâll stick around with me to see Cherishâs bright and beautiful future that I know is ahead of it for many years to come.

Songs I listened to while drawing this:
My Cherish Playlist (the public and currently only partial version of which you can listen to here.)
Other songs that I canât remember at the moment lol
Very old and barely cleaned up art of the majority of the main cast of my unfinished fantasy novel, because I realized that these are all trapped over on my old compromised blog and I'd like to have them over here.
Tsh'ander Clan West | Verrim kil Hadir vi Amalathae | Myn
Relia Eidanri | Asforahl | Marashac
Riv | Tyalaskr | The Meli
Deidric Carnelian-19 | Cieni *high whistle/click sound* | Kortha VI
This is roughly the order of introduction, if I'm remembering correctly, although it gets a little muddied after Tyalaskr.
Random nonsense about these freaks under the cut.
Verrim was born missing one arm and about 30% of either lung in a deal his mother made with their patron god to make sure he inherited a specific magic that only presents in Amalathae women, without which he would have been taken from her at birth and raised up elsewhere.
Myn and Riv are members of a species born from the energetic aftershocks of the creation of the planet. They have a static populationâwhen one dies, another is born to take their place and carry the energy that creates their equivalent of a soul. This is referred to as a "changeover," not reincarnation.
Asforahl and Marashac are the last survivors of the first generation born after the First made the planet and a manufactured species to populate it.
Tyalaskr is the result of a complex breeding experiment involving the murder of one of Riv and Myn's people, the changeover of which led to the birth of Riv. Tyal and Riv are best friends and share a birthday.
The Meli was accidentally created in a magical splicing accident that resulted in a couple people and at least one large feline getting fused together into a single living thing. It has two hearts, several extra ribs, too many vertebrae, and telescoping legs.
Deidric comes from a culture where hair color defines a person's role in society. She is, unfortunately, a genetic aberration who was born to parents with white hair (commoners, ~90% of the population) while she has black hair (nonperson labor, ~9.9% of the population); her teacher is a white-haired man who was born to black-haired parents ~50 year prior. Their culture is in shambles.
What would constitute the closest thing Cieni has to a surname is a series of sounds that literally can't be produced by most spoken or any written language, so that's what you get.

Here are Tsh'ander and Verrim, the first two characters introduced in the story.
Tsh'ander is the ambassador of the thevier people, a child of Clan West over in Greenborder. Sheâs the one of the eldest of the current generation, making her one of the first thevier to have magic back since the Deadlands, well, died.
Verrim is a priest of the House of the Sun, a seer serving under the First of Gold and Gleaming, Sulla. Verrim was born without his right arm and about a third of both lungs as part of a bargain his mother struck with Sulla to assure Verrim couldnât be taken from her.
âVerlaine shot Rimbaud âcause he loved him so ââ
Bullshit.
Verlaine shot Rimbaud because he was a manipulative, homicidal asshole who hid behind his drinking to try to excuse his cruel and violent tendencies, who had tried to kill many people who were close to him multiple times throughout his life â who reacted not with just sorrow but anger at the thought that his little side piece had finally had enough of his guilt-tripping and abuse and was ending the relationship.
There is absolutely nothing less exemplary of love â nothing which proves its absence more â than having the instinct to put someone in any sort of harmâs way (much less actively endanger their life!) as retaliation for a parting of ways.
While I think itâs definitely accurate to Paulâs attitude and viewpoint of their relationship, I have always hated the way this song paints the real, actual, gruesome and ugly physical and emotional abuse and manipulation that he committed towards Arthur as being the ultimate expression of love and romance, when there is absolutely nothing from which it could be farther.
Verlaine shot Rimbaud because he was an entitled piece of shit who thought that because he, as a fully grown adult man of 27 years old, picked this traumatized 16 year old up from an abusive household and took him in, sometimes deigning to treat him a little nicely and support his dreams using his pre-existing high society influence and money, that meant that he was eternally owed a relationship with him.
I still intend to write a full article about this at some point going over the whole matter and the absolutely sickening takes that come out of the rampant spread of misinformation of these events, but seriously, donât give this man so much credit and sympathy for being a legitimately terrible person and blaming his disloyalty and all of his very much pre-existing issues on an impoverished, traumatized teenager whom he tried to end the life of twice.
Arthur wasnât a saint â few, if any, people are â but he sure as Hell didnât deserve any of what he got, and it most certainly wasnât a matter of love that inspired it to happen.
