Gallifreyan Guard!Twelve for @rumple04 's creative evenings prompt this week. Might color this later if I have time.

The way that reprise of the Long Song turned into something malicious at the end of Dot and Bubble and just the look on The Doctor's face like he just lost something about himself.

Maybe?

I won’t lie, this is mostly to serve as an excuse to get an actor I like back on the show. (I say this like the producers would ever consider it)

Anyway what if the Valeyard already happened and it was during 11’s depressed days post Amy but pre Clara?

Here’s my reasoning:

A. It would explain why the Valeyard needed (or thought he needed) 6’s regenerations.

B. It would explain why the super computer Testimony called 12 the “Shadow of the Valeyard.”

C. 11 at his lowest is far more calculating than 10, so I think his personality fits the Valeyard more than the meta crisis or even 14th Doctor.

D. It would also add to why 11 as opposed to 10, was so keen on acting like the war Doctor’s crimes weren’t his in day of the Doctor.

E. The Valeyard is established as a master of disguise so like why not have that actually be Matt Smith? (Or some other Doctor)

The fanfic idea would be post Amy’s exit he tries his own hand at creating a paradox in order to save her from the Angels, but it backfires so hard that it tears a whole in space and time, causing the past timelords to show up/arrest him. This would cause 11 to see an opportunity as while he couldn’t yet overcome a paradox, surely the Matrix would have a way to. This, plus knowing this is a golden opportunity to both extend his life, given he remembers the Valeyard attempted to take 6’s regenerations, and maybe even prevent the time war (since 6 would never regenerate into 7 and thus Skaro would never be destroyed) if he succeeds where the Valeyard he fought in the past failed. So, 11 becomes the Valeyard.

(Tho side note if 11 does do everything the Valeyard did in the show, it would be fun to have one of Clara’s copies across the time stream be how/why the Valeyard escaped the bomb at the end of Trial.)
