2. Are there any tropes you used to dislike but have grown on you? this one is quite easy - pregnancy and mpreg! also by extension, omegaverse haha. this was entirely down to my friend @pregnancykink whose passion and enthusiasm for pregnancy related things was extremely contagious and persuasive! also like. sometimes that man needs to be gregnant, u know? many such cases (bucky barnes, eric bogosian, reece shearsmith, i could go on)

13. Are there any tropes you used to like but don't any more? hmm from a writer's perspective not really? but from a reader's perspective, i used to read a lot more AUs - specifically i had a few favourites that i wouldn't touch with a ten foot barge pole any more (x men first class there was a very good college/university frat AU called Carpe Brewski that i loved, and there was an Inception/xmfc crossover which i loved too; a couple of star trek aos fics like Switch i guess; a LOT of brookermitchell from the kinkmeme)

37. Promote one of your own "deep cut" fics (an underrated one, or one that never got as much traction as you think it deserves). What do you like about it? this one IS hard!!! especially since the vast majority of my fics have very little kudos by dint of the ships/fandoms lmao. i mean christ, which one of the many single digit kudos fics do i pic? truly spoilt for choice lskdhglfg

but okay to be serious i guess, there's a few variations for this so i'm gonna give a couple of answers!

firstly: a semi-popular ship by my standards (769 works, 468 with otp:true) i looked at you and i saw home - cid/vincent, ffvii compilation (8,591 words). this one is a plotty little story with fun horror elements and some character study post-game for Vincent, written for Phoenix Down Exchange. i enjoyed writing this one a lot, and i'd say it propelled me into wanting to write more longer plottier fics! i think there's a lot of similar threads tracing through the horror-adjacent things i've written and i like how evocative and atmospheric this one is

secondly: an (BAFFLINGLY) unpopular ffxii ship (78 works, 50 with otp:true) The Allied Games - Ashe/Basch, ffxii (13,552 words). i will GENUINELY never understand why this ship is so unpopular. it's got a queen and her loyal knight, it's got angst, they've got past history together, it's just so good!!! but that aside, this one is a post-game fic i wrote for Fic in a Box, looking at how Ashe and Basch would navigate their relationship and how it would develop when Basch stays on as Gabranth in Archades with Larsa. i like this one because it has a lot of really nice epistolary bits (the whole first half of the fic is comprised of letters between Ashe, Basch and Larsa), and it was really fun to explore how the new political alliance between Dalmasca and Archades might play out. plus like. a TON of UST, lush costume design and a hot and romantic sex scene, what's not to love?

and finally: a (probably less bafflingly?) unpopular ffxii ship (5 works, they're all tagged with the ship first, 2 by me) Dalmascan Hospitality - Ashe/Balthier/Al-Cid (8,290 words). i'll also never understand why people don't like this ship cos its just so hot!!! but i guess that's the diminishing returns of ot3s, sadge. ANYWAY. yes it's another post-game political thing from meee!! (interestingly, this was the first fic in the tag since 2013!!! 2011-2013 was the prime ff_land gang writing ffxii stuff so yeah). this one was for Phoenix Down Exchange 2024 and i was SO excited to get to write them again!! anyway this one i loved because i got to do some clothes porn once again, and got to explore how i think something like a royal ot3 would work - a diplomatic marriage between Al-Cid and Ashe to wed Rozarria and Dalmasca, and then her as Queen being able to take on a consort in Balthier. i generally also love any combination of this three, they're super fun to write and i LOVED getting to showcase badass Queen Ashe 🥰🥰
