But like also, there's an infinity collector who dresses their fifty or so Cait Sith action plush in little overalls. SE must have seen their photos when they designed this costume! It looks just like them! That's so cool! 🥰🥰🥰
Reeve sat on the edge of the balcony heading towards Ghost Square, looking out from behind Cait’s eyes. The fact they could smell the sweet treats as patrons came and went should have left them ecstatic. Instead it made Reeves currently half-a-world-away stomach turn. Aerith had agreed to help Cait, had seemed absolutely flattered that of all the party the little cat had trusted her. Nimble fingers had made easy work of the few cables, while she wondered at just how much he had to be comfortable around her to let her work on him like this. The next few hours had been Cait discovering what things smelt like what, Reeve letting himself almost fall into the robot but not quite, watching with a smile from half a world away at his desk. The nutty smell of coffee, the smell of dust in the air, how the hotel room smelled slightly of cleaning supplies and warm laundry. Cait had know about these from programming and inspire, but to actually experience them was something else entirely and the cat reveled in the new sensation. Reeve almost, almost, jumped in when Cait, still giddy with discovery, told Aerith with wonder in his voice that she smelt like flowers, but she had simply laughed and pet him between the ears. It was wonderful. So wonderful he almost forgot he had a job to do. The harsh reminder came when Cait got a message from the Golden Saucers staff that he had a guest. Reeve had to take over. It was the right call to grab the keystone and run, wasn’t it? They sat on the balcony railing, not even waving as some kid pointed excitedly at Cait, exclaiming about the mascot before asking her parents why the cat looked so sad. They couldn’t bring themselves to even fake any joy for the kid. Reeve nor Cait. So they hopped off the railing to slink into the employees only space. It would be bad for their cover if they kept sulking in public. He couldn’t get the way Aerith looked at him out of his head. The way she moved forwards, the clear question of why? On her face before Cloud stopped her. The way that even after being told not to, she lingered and looked at him, almost pleading for an explanation. And despite saying he could explain, they found they couldn’t. Every single justification died on their lips. Every single justification refused to leave Cait’s lips. Neither of them could bring themselves to say a word. And so they just wandered the Golden Saucer in silence, surrounded by the chatter of people and hearing laughter outside. It made them feel worse. It was a horrible feeling, and it had been a snap decision. They could have done nothing. They could have taken the keystone and kept it from the Turks. Except they couldn’t have, really.
God he hoped he’d done the right thing. The Turks had so many more resources to deal with whatever was in that temple, people and weapons and intelligence. If something went wrong, Shinra had the resources to deal with it. More likely it was another dead end. And if Shinra was busy off on their search for the mythical promised land there was more room for him shift things to aid actual people while their backs were turned. It also kept the other people who where trying to do actual good out of the middle of that whole mess. Rufus, despite his saying otherwise when recruiting Reeve for this task, still insisted on following the ‘loose ends’ of that waste of time to its end. Maybe it would be best if him and his stupid helicopter ended up in whatever blasted trap- Reeve cut that thought off. At the end of the day, the goal was to keep everyone safe. He fiddled with the knot of his cape absently. And right now, he needed to leverage Shinras own bulk and bureaucracy to do that. Plus, Tseng was with Rufus. If Tseng couldn’t make it out, then who could? And Avalanche... They had joined them, followed them. After being told what his task was, he’d expected to find a splinter cell of lunatics. It was anything but. Wallace’s lack of thinking skills aside, he’d found people. People that laughed and argued and annoyed each other but still were focused on the task of stopping Sephiroth. Ostensibly, the same task Shinra had, just without the hope of the promised land being a byproduct. It hadn’t taken long for Reeve to bend the rules. Modifying wanted posters, moving schedules around, things that would get lost in layers and layers of bureaucracy. Things that could get lost in the shuffle, obfuscated behind accounts and terminals. And along the road they started feeling more like friends. So even if they hated him, he had to keep them safe. It was the optimal way to deal with the problem. Proper resource management, good risk assessment. That's what the engineer would think. The words felt hollow as Cait thought them.
i love kitty
